luz: luz peÑa, abc7 news. liz: we have image of the damage in the north bay coming in right now.this is a large tree that toppled over. fire crews are assessing the damage. and look at this flooded parking lot in santa rosa. this is on industrial avenue between cleveland and arrow way drive. flooded roads are dangerous to drive through. and check out rising water here on san geronimo san geronimo sao this morning. a resident posted this video on nextdoor with the caption "the creek is a river." we certainly have not seen that image in a while. south parts of santa cruz county are under an evacuation order due to this storm. you can see the locations in yellow and red. areas in and near the burn scar are indicated in the red, and they are now under a debris flow evacuation order. you are looking live at san francisco international airport right now. hard to see with so many raindrops on that camera. it is gray and wet there as well. officials are warning travelers to allow for plenty of time. wet and windy weather could delay flights. the airport is telling flyers to check with th

liz: abc7 news is committed to building a better bay area by tracking stories that track your health. a device that they hope will free kidney patients from dialysis -- luz peÑa: for thousands of kidney patients in the u.s., the only practical hope of getting off dialysis has been waiting for a transplant. now, a new engineering breakthrough is reigniting hopes for a second option -- an artificial kidney. >> we are able to create a functional prototype that was able to produce urine. luz: we first met the professor and his lab where he was working with a concept model. the working prototype employs two chambers, each about the size of a deck of cards. on one side are membranes for cleaning the blood, similar to dialysis. on the other sack, a bioreactor fueled by living cells that will perform other functions the kidneys would normally control. >> this would allow dialysis patients to eat and drink freely, travel without being tethered to a machine, and have better physiological outcomes, because they are getting continuous treatment, unlike dialysis that happens every other day. luz: the artificial kidney prototype was tested successfully in live animal model
