to talk this through we are joined by liz ryan, president of the campaign for youth justice, to end the incarceration of youth for adult crimes. google hangout is glen martin who was convicted of armed robbery and served six years. a youth are advocate. welcome to all of you. liz i want to start with you. give us a snapshot of the 250,000 juveniles who go through system and how the numbers shake out. >> as you said, about a quarter of a million young people are tried in adult criminal court every single year. many of these young people are prosecuted for first time so many of them are first time offenders, many of them are charged with minor and nonviolent offenses. some people aged 16 and 17 where glen is based are automatically tried in adult court no matter what the crime is. we see a lot of situations, many of these are placed in adult jails pretrial and they haven't been convicted of anything, adult jail the most at risk for abuse and assault. many in solitary confinement before trial. >> you say many of them are in minor offenses, what would trigger a youth being tried in adult co

i think actually ryan liz za has a good point. it is a fraud republican party.ot a good enough relationship between the two key people on either side. >> that's a good principle for negotiations between two principle who have the ability to make commitments on behalf of the people they're representing. john boehner is not a principal here. he is driven by his caucus. three weeks ago, john boehner and eric cantor were trying to put together a plan that would have led to almost exactly what's come out of democratic senate now. they were going to pass a continuing resolution that funded the government at the levels contemplated in the continuing resolution and that would have had a provision funding obama care that the senate could send directly to the president without it coming back to the house. three weeks ago john boehner wanted to cave on this. he's been forced by his caucus not to give that up. what is he supposed to discuss in a negotiation with the president? the president is going to say i'm not doing something that delays or defunds obama care. boehner h
