his name was william lloyd garrison. william lloyd garrison was a native of massachusetts, a white man, from a working class background. his father had abandoned the family when he was quite young, and william had to go out to work. he started supporting himself when he was very young. he went into the printing business. he was a printer, and he worked for several newspapers. he for a while worked for a paper in baltimore, and he saw slavery up close and personal when he was living in a slave state in the state of maryland, and he was horrified by what he saw. he went back to boston and decided that he was going to open his own newspaper and he was going to devote it completely to abolishing slavery, and the newspaper was called -- does anybody know? very good.
