i am excited about the track record of the puc on hiring locally in san francisco. for this project alone, we have 60.5% of the residents who are around the area working on this project. we have 6.5% -- it is 27.5%, sorry, much better. 27.5% of the workers are local residents. that is above what our current mandate is for the local hire ordinance that we passed last year at the board of supervisors. i wanted to congratulate you on that effort. 54.5% are from the bay area. 60.5% of the workers are apprenticeships workers, new workers, who are getting new jobs into this industry. the project helps to make that happen. congratulations on that. we are hiring carpenters, cement workers, and landscape professionals. we know we are providing employment opportunities for this project. i look at this as providing so many benefits to san francisco. we're providing reliable water. we are making our water system safe. we are also improving the process for many san francisco workers and businesses. those workers will go and spend money for their basic needs in san francisco. con

because there is a regional regulation that says that all our local authorities need to have a local mobility plan. i heard this morning about a problem like neighbors complaining when things have to be changed and the whole debate that is coming up then. but i think we have it similar because it's our local mayors who sometimes are hesitating to put into practice -- that's one of the reasons why those cycling routes sometimes get stuck, because you have a regional cycling route, but local authorities, we have 19 in brussels, local authorities do have to give permits for that. there is a lot of criticism on that and i heard my dutch colleague say one hour ago, you can get stuck because at local levels people don't like it, although your regional plan is to be so good. that's true. on the other hand, i think that it's a good democratic process to really to go at the low-cal level and convince people why it's good to have those new infrastructureses. this is one of the typical, in old belgium towns you would find it now, it's the flow of cycling. it's what you do if you have a one-way

work and reviving our local economy. as some of you may recall, last september, we announced the city would have its own modified version of the federal jobsnow program. because congress failed to act, the city partnered with local businesses to keep san franciscans working, and we call it jobsnow2. as a result, we have partnered with over 100 businesses and employed over 500 local residents, with 70 of them working in the private sector. today, we are here to announce we still have a lot of financial opportunities for private citizens to participate in the jobsnow2 program and we will continue to help put san franciscans back to work. we would like to increase and focus this jobsnow2 program on local small businesses. local businesses are missing a great opportunity to use this resource to their advantage. this increase of subsidy we are seeing today could help small and medium-sized businesses expand and reduce overhead. jobsnow2 will reimburse employers for the first $5,000 of wages paid to an employee hired from the
