whether or not we consider ourselves a local city, our regional city, an international city, it is job creation that makes the city run well. for all of us here, i know you have great hope that the city will be able to have decent jobs here that can maintain, that they can spend a good amount of their careers in, and that is why i spend a lot of time with chief adviser kim and supervisor david chiu and the other supervisors talking about how we can sustain the midmarket. that is why we passed a week ago the midmarket payroll tax exemption. we wanted to welcome new companies into the city and understand what it was blocking their ability to stay and to grow. to hear a company -- not just from the cfo, from the president. when i visited twitter, i closed the door and they allowed me to speak to their engineers, to their workers, to the people doing the engineering work atwitter. as we closed the door, i laid out -- ok, kids. what do you really want out of the city? in very plain language, they said, "mayor lee, we like the culture of the city. we like the local restaurants. we like that

if it burns down, you know, the macy's in the local city is not going to come to overstock's rescue in utah. >> guest: and that's very cute, but i think we're confusing tax collection burden and tax burden. the tax burden in this situation is the consumers. and the consumer does use the fire department and the police department where they are sutting. their house burn-- sitting. their house burns while the ups truck shows up, that fire department's going to protect ups truck, overstock's box and the customer. you could make an argument that the state may not have the right to tax the income of overstock.com, although there's a lot of states that disagree with that, but that's the only direct burden on, tax burden on overstock. all we're asking overstock to do is collect their customers' sales tax. they collect sales tax in utah today, they presumably benefit from the fire protection and police protection that the utah sales tax provide to their corporate offices, but it's their customers whose fire departments and police departments are not being funded because overstock's not collecti

the problem. 15 years later, water quality is on the agenda of every city council person in that local city, and that's completely a result of activists forcing the issue, surfrider and other local groups, saying, "hey, these water quality issues are real and you need to address them." and only until the public sort of creates that will will the politicians respond. narrator: while some cities deal with infrastructure issues, others have concerns about the sustainability of water supplies. allbee: it's not just about the sustainability of the assets, it's about the sustainability of our water resources. parts of this country that thought of themselves as water rich 20, 30 years ago, now are discovering that they really are not water rich, they have source supply issues, they have serious questions about how they're going to accommodate additional growth in their communities. melosi: if we can find alternatives, we can preserve a water supply. conservation of water is a way of generating more water. allbee: we think that a household can actually reduce its water usage by about 30%. and that'

city and county of san francisco. >> i am from san francisco. i grew up in the local neighborhood. i did my under deprad wait work at fisk university, where i studied political science with a concentration in public administration and worked eight years largely in the public sector. then i earned a master's degree from carnegie melon in pittsburg, pennsylvania. i spent some time as assistant executive director for a non-profit. we did work if a lot of kids in the neighborhood. i have done fundraising for candidates and issues. i have experience with the federal reserve bank of san francisco. when i look around my neighborhood and see the changes that are happening, i so there is no neighborhood grocery store. i see that small businesses in particular are coming and going, and they haven't been able to really sustain themselves. from my work experience in working for the city in the mayor's office as well as in the non-profit, i had a good sense as to what some of the challenges were. when i look in the future, i could see more challenges coming. i thought i had a set of experiences

several local cities have already jumped on the bandwagon forbidding businesses from giving customersthose types of bags and containers. opponents say those materials are bad for the environment. >>> all right, folks. big changes in the weather over the next couple of days. numbers cooling down outside. we're looking at low clouds and drizzle stretching onshore right now. heavy drizzle to the coastline making the roadway slick. and partly cloudy in some of the valleys, and stronger onshore push. high pressure is gotten out of the way now. and we're watching the temperatures running cooler than the average for this time of the year. and 70s on the high end by the afternoon and breezy and cool inside the bay with temperatures mainly in the 60s. and out toward the coastline, as an 60s. drizzle, breezy, cool and it is going to be very wet over the next few days out toward the water's edge as we see a saronger onshore push. a trough of low pressure that is hanging along the coastline. that will ramp up the low clouds and fog, and produce some of the drizzle out there. so the high pressure
