because usually if local police and local prosecutors are involved, there is the answer appearance ofa conflict of interest. >> in a situation like this you basically have four parties here. you have mr. sterling, you have the police who we can see from the video were involved in this altercation that resulted in his death. you have the investigative arm of the police and potentially of other entities. and then you have witnesses. there's a lot we don't know yet. on the police side, i think their perspective would be the public and even the people in the incident are reacting to a tiny slice of video and what we believe to be potentially many many many minutes more video. on that, that's different video that could be in the body cameras if they're functioning. we don't know. and from the convenience store. on the investigative side, if it is even possible that there should be an investigation, it certainly legally cannot be done by the people who would be suspected in the investigation. that's a big question today. how do the police respond? do they refer this to an independent body?

certainly the local police officers in the bay area are deeply troubled by what to let's and baton rouge, and local departments are continuing to do whatever they can to keep the officers safe. we are in oakland this morning, and officers are writing two in a squad car in oakland, a tactic put in place following the deadly ambush of the officers in dallas earlier in the month. we are also seeing the same tactic put in place, the same safety measures being taken in san francisco and san jose as well. local officers are mourning the loss of the life, but some policing unions will go a step further. taking a look at the statement from the san jose police officer's association, "it is past time for our political leaders to step up and support law enforcement with the necessary staffing and equipment to keep our neighborhoods safe. we do not need anymore statements of condemnation of the heinous acts or pledges evermore's for the latest murders, we need action." the community leaders across the bay area are weighing in on the baton rouge killings in the meantime. we spoke with pastor mike mcb

he mentioned two police officers got to the scene, they were dispatched there because someone claimed -- there was an anonymous 911 call claiming someone had a gun. localmay have been sterling asking someone to get off the property. again, that has not been confirmed. but when police arrived they confronted sterling and that confrontation escalated. all police have confirmed is that sterling was killed. the two officers, per department policy, they've been placed on administrative leave as this investigation continues. as you said, the attorney for the sterling family says that the body cameras were not operable or fell off during the incident, didn't capture it. another question right now is perhaps, is there surveillance video from the convenience store? if so, it's something that police and investigators will be looking at. they're talking to witnesses right now. it's a very -- emotions are running very high here. >> it's interesting that you have the governor of the state coming out and answering questions, but police, the sheriff's department, they've not come out with more information. granted to your point, game, this investigation is being cond
