>> reporter: we know that three schools are on lockdown. cupertino middle school, homestead high and west valley elementary school. right now it appear that most of the police activity is focused on cupertino middle school located at bernardo avenue and homestead high. sheriff's deputies are on the back field of the middle school, and they seem to be focusing their attention to determine whether anyone is shiding around two storage sheds around the back baseball field. they're trying to get clear ebs to those. this are armed police officers throughout this school who are looking around, looking at these two supply units, and they're trying to determine if there's anyone hiding in there. it appears their search for a suspect continues. we're told that there were reports that came in of an armed gunman on the cupertino middle school campus or near the campus earlier this morning. that suspect is described as a black male with a mo hawk. he possibly was carrying an ammo bag. those reports came in and that's why we're seeing the lockdown right

the entire area's on lockdown. nearby schools are on lockdown as they search for what they believe to be one of two shooters. you heard the public information officer for this college, lone star college in hariss county, around houston, texas, saying that one of the shooters is in custody, but they are on the lookout for another person. one person shoots at one person and the other person fires back. we are getting an interview with another student -- so as that happened, one of these persons of interest went off into the woods nearby. they are searching for that person. this is very much an active scene. you can see on the left-hand side of the screen, it is a quite large, large campus and a lot -- a lot to be dealt with. the sheriffs official confirm, three people are -- are wounded, and one person of interest is in custody. this is the first official from the sheriffs department. throw are wounded and one in custody. one of the three wounded is a shooting suspect. that shooting suspect has been transported to a

again, the lockdown continuing. what happened then is virginia state police, campus police, a whole bunch of other law enforcement agencies went building by building to do a search. while they were doing that, special agents interviewed the student who called 911, and that student confessed it was a hoax. at 10:57, that lockdown was lifted. and that seems to be the story, anita. >> you know, we have to say here debora to see such a rapid response issued to students to tell them to stay in lockdown, to go on campus building to building, it seems like an excellent response by the university. let's be clear, the e-mail that went out, those were real. >> reporter: the e-mail went out first and then one again at 10:00. and both of them were saying that the campus was on lockdown. do not leave your room. lock your door. stay put. and, you know, there was a very quick response certainly. by the time they found out it was a hoax, it was about an hour later and everything was lifted. so the e-mails did go out. it was a hoax.

and the apparent hoax which put three schools on lockdown in the south bay. kron 4 is on the scene -- next. developing right now at five. an east bay school is on high alert. it comes after an attempted kidnapping outside sutter elementary in antioch. kron 4's terisa estacio shows us what is happening now - as the community works to protect its children. look here as police show up - one by one, to provide extra security as school let out here at sutter elementary school. in antioch, and they were not the only ones here in force. but parents flooded the streets and school to pick up their children. see this line of cars. as it stretches out the schools' driveway and down the street. parents say they have never seen so many people here to pick up their kids. this mother - who didn't want to talk on camera says she will never let her kids walk home again. and this mother says she is here helping out a friend. i always come. and today i am picking up a friends daughter. see this teacher here. and this one. they volunteered to help out as school ended for the day

the school still is on lockdown right now. students are not being allowed outside and parents are not being allowed insidement there are reports that a vice principal has talked to parents but that's as far as the communication goes. we know now that two people have been shot, including a 14-year-old. we do not know if it's a 14-year-old boy or girl. but the atlanta fire department reporting that student was shot in the head. not sure how that comports to this report saying that the two victims who were shot were both alert and talking as they were taken from the school. there were also reports that a teacher was injured but was not shot and it's unclear as to who the second victim might be. now, police have confirmed they have one person in custody. in fact it was videotaped earlier of them taking -- it appeared to be a student away in handcuffs, and there are subsequent reports now saying that is a many as two people might have been taken into custody. you can see the scene right there. part of the reason the information, sh
