it's was on a battlefield when he met sergeant louis loftus. tonight he completes his story.ome, sergeant loftus opened his life to us. >> reporter: this was a familiar scene in 2010. a memorial service for a soldier killed in one of the most -- places in southern afghanistan. so dangerous that as we made our way back from the memorial -- the taliban attacked at close range. the members of the 82nd airborne were caught off guard and moved quickly to retaliate. >> one soldier has been injured. >> reporter: in the middle of the battle was louis loftus. he took up a gun and helped repel the taliban assault. this was life for sergeant loftus and members of his bring grade. >> move your team around and try to get to the intersection. >> reporter: louis dreamed of serving in the military and he was the team leader of foot patrols through farmlands littered with bombs. but the deployment was taking its toll. when we asked about the fallen soldier, the stress and pent up emotions poured out. >> i'm kind of numb to it. to be honest i don't really feel much. i pray for his family and h

commissioner loftus? >> yes. so recognizing that we as public safety agencies don't operate in silos, yesterday, the board of supervisors made a decision to reinstate sheriff murcarimi who has been convicted of a domestic incident against his wife and on probation, i feel like it was weeks ago that i was commoneding them for what i have viewed over my career to be a true partnership. and i know that the chief is not here, but i hope that deputy chief you can share with the chief that i think that we to as a department reenergize ourselves in terms of out reach to domestic violence, potential victims, and we have got language access issues. i know that there is a new officer who is on the beat doing this. and i know that he just started a couple of weeks ago, but i hope that the chief can give us a report back on the department's efforts to continue to out reach and make sure that the city is aware that this department does not accommodate violence against women that nothing has changed. the safety net that has be

i just want to say good job, thank you. >> commissioner loftus? >> i just want to echo the comments of my kol colleague. i think that it was sergeant tumor, i saw someone violate the perimeter where the president was coming and he got past several officers and it was sfpd who ultimately restrained him and i have to echo what commissioner dejesus said. i was with my kids and what they did is they made sure that they removed him from the area, and they had what looked to me as a stern conversation happened and he was released. and it was... i went up to them and i said that is a reminder that as law enforcement when you wear the badge, all of the time everybody is watching and the community it to see him leave the values. >> and i also have to say that there is an aspect where the public is watch and when crimes happen to us, or we make terrible mistakes like leaving your iphone on the passenger side seat of your car, my iphone was stolen at someone at 8:30 in the morning, crashed the passenger's side window of my car when i was gone for four minute
