i have to admit, over 20 years ago, when the 1989 loma prieta earthquake took down the freeway, i had close family and friends in chinatown that were my concern. the chinese community wanted the freeway replaced. freeway opponents pushed for the freeway removal instead of the repair. at first, a cost traffic woes, but soon, drivers readjusted. what we all forget, prior to the earthquake, there was strong opposition to remove the embarcadero freeway. in 1986, voters rejected the board of supervisors'proposal to remove the freeway. opposition claimed it would cause major gridlock. the proposal was the dividend. there were eat -- there was even a 1000-page eir supporting the measure. one of the supervisors and even the love of columnist for lilly were opposed to the freeway removal at the time. we were wrong. -- originally were opposed. it took as quick to show us. 20 years later, there is a brighter side. the embarcadero is given a chance to reunite with the waterfront, starting with projects like the very building and tears 1.5, 3 and 5, a project that i was delighted to participate in

reborn as an adjunct of the western addition with the dismantling of the central freeway after loma prieta-aened the reinvestment within hayes valley is now becoming this kind of chic area which i hope disp not lose its populism. lower haight is a wonderful help place, but it has suffered because of crime, i believe, and some of the economic downturn that we have noticed post dotcom implosion. upper haight has always been just a mecca. it deserves collective attention in making sure haight ashbury is not compromised but also an area we want to make sure is accessible for all. cole valley neighborhood, you know, to haight, is a bit of a hamlet, an enclave near the haight, in between there and ucsf and inner sunset. inner sunset, it's just a great swing area. what i mean by that is you just have such a great combination between merchants and residents, mass transit hub, a lower pac heights, certainly wants to enjoy the prosperity of pac heights but not want to lose its diversity that spills over from the fillmore western addition area. north of pan handle is a composite of everything i have just s

one from loma prieta. one from san francisco. we have some fog dancing around a little bit. be areas of fog. most of it is from the marin headlands and down towards san mateo/santa cruz coastline. fog, low clouds, then sunny, cooler tuesday and wednesday by a though tissable amount. i mean we'll drop about 5, 10 degrees. we'll turn that right around, sunny and warmer. much warmer as we head towards friday and the weekend is looking sunny side up and warm. 54 santa rosa to 58 fairfield right now. the city's still at 56 degrees. some low 60s. hayward's in there. livermore and san jose low 60s. the system, there it goes. long gone. it's only going to be a brief one-day slight warmup for tomorrow today because the next system is already in the picture. that had carry us into wednesday. so 60s by the coast after the fog burns off. 70s around the bay, upper 70s and low 80s. we'll go 64 in san francisco. too much in the way of low clouds and fog. 52 san rafael and napa. just some low 60s and temperatures, once you get the sun will rebound fast. 34 up in tahoe. they were 32 this mor
