first of all, in various regions, long beach being one, there is an affiliation between the k through 12 system, the community colleges and the cal state campus in long beach to where the faculty and administrators in the community know that if the stunlt does the right things in k through 12 and goes to the community colleges and takes certain courses and performs at the right level there, you're assured admission in long beach state and can get through in two more years or three more years. that partnership is developing in many different areas. fullerton has one. some up north in san jose, san francisco bay area. so that's one thing where we've sort of regionalized the systems and created that feeder system in that region. there's also legislation that occurred a handful of years ago in california creating an associate degrees for transfer, which actually challenged both the community college faculty and the california state university faculty. and to a lesser extent the university of california faculty, to create model transfer curricula in which students if they take a certain se

let me show you where we are here on long beach island. main roads look pretty good.re drying up. look at the bay area, there, too, pretty dry. that wasn't the case on the other side of the island. we were on the north side, you can take a look at some video there, this is long beach boulevard. there is water on every side of the road. if you imagine, you have four lanes, and of course two going in each way, there is the outer lanes on both sides covered with water. some flood spots could in some areas be the usual flood spots, but all of the rain certainly making a big big impact. one of the main concerns property call storm joaquin will become a hurricane, what could happen in the next few days or over the weekend if it continues to make it way up toward where we are. >> tree to protect the beaches, make sure that they don't get any flooding, and deal with any serious problems there, a the loft beach towns, very sensitive, ever since hurricane sandy of course, big rainstorm, comes to, or a lot of precipitation, but what we are seeing right now pretty much just clear

here's the storm that once was over staten island, over parts of queens, near long beach. it's weakening now and is mainly off shore. but it extends all the way down into northern monmouth county. big storm around jackson right now with a bit of hail. that's moving towards the jersey shore, and also crestwood village, just to the west of toms river. you have to watch out there, as well. the storm is headed toward the shore. back to the west, we can see the actual cold front. this is what's coming tomorrow that will bring even more rainfall and maybe some heavy rain, and we could be dealing with mor flooding across the area. so this evening, it's just spotty stuff. nstomorrow, bigger storms, heavier rain, end to the heatwave after today with a high of only 80. we're talking anywhere from generally 1 to 2 inches of rain tomorrow, but there could be some spots with up to 3 inches of rain, street and highway flooding possible late tonight and into tomorrow. will this end the drought? no, it won't end it, but certainly help. today was the last day of the heatwave. up to 90 degr
