narrator: in the lab, lonnie's team analyzes the ice cores.xygen isotope ratios provide a proxy for the temperature when the ice was formed. these records are consistent with other studies that reveal going back 1,000 years a long-term warming trend, beginning about 150 years ago -- the dawn of the industge. carbon dioxide measurements taken directly from bubbles trapped in the ice reveal ever-increasing concentrations of co2 over this same time period. adding to this wealth of information lonnie's team can detect droughts by measuring chemical traces in the ice blown in from dry lake beds. dr. davis: well, that's what i was just wondering about. one of the easiest historic records to track in an ice core are drought events. so anywhere you see sulfates indicate that the environment got very dry. here it is. right here was a drought. in calcium, there was an increase here in the '60s. and then you go down. here's another increase in the '30s. it was contemporaneous with our dust bowl period. actually you know what that is? that's these. thomps

so i have been an admirer of lonnie for a really long time. and in my classes i often play a recording of her talking about the importance of utilizing democratic space, amplifying and/or demonstrating your voice as a value is significant in a for the people government. leveraging your democratic space and a realization and execution of one's agency is bound one to the other. agency is a social cognitive theory that defines the one who deploys the construct as intentionally influencing wife -- life circumstance. in this world -- or and this view personal influence is part of a causal structure. people are self organizing proactive, self-regulating, and self reflecting. they're not simply onlookers to their own behavior. they are contributors to life circumstances and not just products of them. so then, the exercise of your democratic space is consequence of how you influence psychological functioning. and michael? everybody cool with that? so if we consider the folks in this room, we can note there is an amount of privilege we possess. we have
