o turn now to lonnie quinn, chief weathercaster at wcbs-tv a new york. what's the latest, lonnie? >> the latest is, you just said hi, this could potentially be a top-10 storm in florida rmroughout its history. now if you take a peek at the latest information from the national hurricane center, still a category 1, winds 85 miles per hour. leis is key-- it's moving northwest at 13 miles per hour. if that slows down it can strengthen more. number one is there is super- heated water in front of this storm. you need water temperatures of ea degrees to maintain a hurricane. it it's warmer than that, that storm can really grow. this water is going to travel oier 85 to 90 degrees. so this is why we think it's going to get much larger than it is. also, that forward speed is slowing down. by the time it gets close to affecting land, it's going to be moving at between four and six miles per hour. again, the slower it moves, the ,ore chance it gets to grow over that warm water and the longer it affects an area. so inland flooding can be a big deal. you take a peek at the high pressure system

lonnie quinn sorts it out in your overnight news forecast. >> reporter: this could potentially be a top florida throughout its history. if you take a peek it's still a category 1. winds haven't changed, it's moving through the northwest 13 miles per hour. it's part of what we're watching. number one, there is super heated water in front of this storm. you need water temperatures of 79 degrees to maintain the hurricane. if it's warmer than that, that storm can really grow. this water is going to travel over 85 to 90 degrees. all right. so this is why we think it's going to get much larger than it is. also that forward speed slows down. right now we just said it's moving 13 miles per hour. by the time this gets close to affecting land, it's going to be moving between 4 and 6 miles per hour. again, the slower it moves the more chance it gets to grow over that warm water and the longer it affects a certain area. inland flooding could be a big deal. if you take a peek at the high pressure that's going to steer this, we know it's going to push it toward the southeastern portion of t.swh iin m

lonnie quinn has your "overnight news" forecast. >> it has 80-mile-per-hour winds right now.tegory 1, moving to the west-northwest at 14 miles per hour. we doveanl somewhere along the southeast coast of the u.s. is going to be probably a category 3, maybe a strong category 2. about 115-mile-per-hour winds. if it's 111, okay, we drop down to a category 2. either way it has nothing now to prevent it from strengthening. it missed all the mountains in puerto rico. it's now north of that. all of the water from there to the united states is running between 85 and 90 degrees. it's a bathtub out there. we're calling it high voltage water to create a hurricane. and with a high pressure system, a big bermuda high steering it from this point forward, what happens at this point? will it push into it the gulf of mexico, or does it ride around the periphery of the high up into the portions of the northeastern portion of the u.s.? well, we'll have to track that, and we'll figure that out. dorian is going to make landfall as a hurricane in the u.s. likelihood could be a major hurricane. a 3,
