lonnie quinn, did you see it? >> you bet ya. they had special clearance to fly 1,000 to 3,000 feet, by the landmarks in the city. cool stuff. and mother nature cooperative because if that fly-over had occurred 12 hours earlier. spring sputters in the northeast with temperatures on the cool side. the tennessee valley, meanwhile, you will see some storms today. and the rockies are still in winter. how is that even possible? let me show you how. you've got this spin. see this counter clockwise spin around montana and wyoming. what it does is pulls in air from canada. that's where the air is cold enough for snow. that doesn't necessarily just give you snow. how do you get snow out of that? you still have to make that air mass rise. by going over a mountain range, no way to get air over a mountain without making it go up in the sky. consequently gets compressed. colorado, wyoming, 1 to 2 feet of the white stuff. 4,000 to 5,000 feet above. here now is a closer look at the weather for your weekend. >>> good enough. happy saturday, ever

first, we turn back to lonnie quinn for our final check of the weather. >> good morning, everybody.d on something because the picture you've got behind me all right, this is new york city you're looking at, the upper west side of manhattan but i want to show you a quote from the storm prediction center about the tornadic outbreak they believe is possible today. they're saying it's as bad as it gets. what's the kicker here? the kicker is that quote was said yesterday. consequently, from omaha to topeka to oklahoma city the entire area shaded in red, moderate risk for trrns. but the area shaded in yellow, just around omaha sandwiched between topeka and oklahoma city, those areas are high risk for tornadoes. now, that's never done. those warnings were issued 24 hours in advance. that is very rare. in fact, it's only been done once before and that was in april of 2006. and that unfortunate situation resulted in around 100 trrns. the elements are in line for possibly the same sort of thing. we're seeing activity kicking up at this hour. we've got to play it safe in that portion of the co

"cbs this morning: saturday" weather anchor lonnie quinn is tracking the nor'easter for us. >> good morninglet's take a look at the storm on the satellite and radar picture. i want you to know this much, come tomorrow at lunchtime, whoever is being affected by the storm, it will be out of here. as of now, this is the snow. anywhere from portions of western new york through western pennsylvania into portions of west virginia. if we can zoom in and show you how much snow we're expecting out of this, it looks like the center swath will see over half a foot. zoom in tighter. between buffalo and erie it looks like portions will see about 14 inches of notice. you heard from seth, the probability of power lines coming down because those tree limbs will snap, heavy wet snow, with all those leaves, they hold an extra heavy amount of snow and consequently the wind will be snapping it, rain as well. some portions picking up over 3 inches. over to you guys. >> lonnie, thanks. >>> now more than a week since a secret service sex scandal in colombia exploded into public view. as bill plante reports from t
