we saw a liquor store being looted. we saw a tavern being looted. it was no police presence at that intersection at all. we also felt we were in danger. we had to pull back from there and that's when we got word that some of the looting had gone on here. we were told now the looters have been taken out of at least a section of the mall. we're going to try to move around some other areas of the mall see if any other looting is going on. but very chaotic night in baltimore. and it has filtered over into this area. this is the mondawmin mall an area where a lot of this rioting started this afternoon. and it filtered back into this area a short time ago. but we saw some looting down in the western part of baltimore, near the cvs. we were outside that cvs when firefighters were really struggling to get that fire under control. one of the firefighters told us that their lines were cut, their hoses were cut, i heard miguel mention that a short time ago. we witnessed firefighters going into that building and really trying to get that fire under control, rea

we have been watching looting actually being looted all afternoon. police there as you can see have made their way to the scene and the looters have set the building on fire. we haven't seen the fire response yet. we know there was a car not far from there and two cars have been set fire there as well. i can't recall whether or not that's the scene where we saw the fire department put the fire out. in this case they have not gotten to the building. they do have the area secured but the building is fully engaged now in fire. maureen: we had asked earlier about what happened to the c.v.s. employees in that store, we're told everybody got out safely before the looting started and certainly before this apparent fire started. tom roussey is also live in baltimore. tell us what you're seeing in your neighborhood. tom: we got a big line of police cars coming in right here and that big vehicle right here is from prince george's county. this just happened moments ago. a lot of the scene of the trouble has been about two blocks of where i am. see this big vehi

we've seen the 15 16-year-olds out there looting. what did you see in terms of that at 10:00 tonight? did you see mostly adults or teenagers as well? >> reporter: you certainly saw a number of teenagers before 10:00. you saw teenagers after 10:00. that really presents a conundrum for the police. we heard the commissioner say earlier in the day, when you have 14 15 16-year-olds out in the street they are old enough to know better but do you really want to have a scene where the police are getting rough with them. that's the scene they're trying to avoid. effectively the police did avoid that tonight. they did come out, use some intimidation tactics. when you have the police marching forward with the riot shields and trenshons to advance that line. they came out with the smoke first, and a little bit of tear gas after that. they effectively got the streets cleared without a major flash. >> today we saw the city of baltimore really coming together helping clean up. also when that curfew hit around 10:00 p.m. we saw community members hel

we've been shown the violence and the looting. we got a tweet from baltimore police that says there's another group continuing to destroy property. this just keeps going. >> we're going to take a moment to listen in to baltimore station wjz's coverage live on air right now. >> people who lived there were wondering. we did see fire department respond to another incidence where two veekss were on fire. i think obviously they have to go where it's safe but they're trying to get on top of any fires that have broken out. have you talked to people upset about what's happening? i guess we've lost christy. >> we can go to marcus washington. he covered the funeral today and spoke with billy murphy, the attorney representing freddie's family. marcus what is your perspective on all this? you were there. you saw the celebration of the life of this young man. we've heard the family call for calm and it's just not happening right now. >> that's right. earlier today during the funeral a lot of people were here. people said yes, they were sad but

he said the looting has stopped. we have live video of a lot of things going on so there is questions about that. he called out the mayor saying she might have delayed saying you know what, when the mayor finally called us glad she finally did not passing judgment on her decisions. we have a reporter who has been covering the scene all through the night. we are bringing him in. we have seen more looting today. and the police setup perimeter lines to get ready for protesting. what is the mood out there? >> pretty tense. we heard no justice. it was civilized but we have the riot police formed again in a strong battle line, reinforced not only with police swat team and the state police teams. over the past hour or two, we have gotten a couple hundred protesters who have now come out for no justice, no peace and you so one of the signs up there saying freddie gray didn't die in vein civil rights now. that is what we keep hearing this is about. freddie gray and also civil rights in general. a lot of folks are mega phones

and looting my store. i, you know, thought the police were on the east side of town and all the police and everyone was on the west side of town and i think it was a crime of opportunity here. they -- they figured that there were no police presence here. we're actually three blocks from central district and i kept waiting for the police to arrive and i never saw anybody. and i started calling the police department and i called one of the districts and they said well call the other district. i called the other district. meanwhile i'm watching probably 50 or 60 people loot my store. and i couldn't get in touch with anyone. and finally they say, well call central district. and i called central district and no one answered. and it took me probably an hour to realize that nobody was going to answer the phone, and meanwhile i've been watching this video and it's -- it was gut wrenching to watch our business dissolve like that. and i finally called -- they were doing a live interview in front of central police st

started fires and looting? no. this conduct didn't start because you had a law-abiding citizen that all of a sudden got caught up and now i'm going to turn into a criminal. these are people that have all of these lying in wait for this opportunity. some are citizens that live there. some aren't. but to say that they didn't start out in the peaceful demonstrations is something that you cannot say. neither can i. and you're asserting saying look. we're going to wait to riot. no. no. i think there are those. and unless you get the opportunity if freddie gray hit the police officer he would be arrested immediately. we have not had one arrest. no matter what anybody wants to say, fact is that he his vertebrae wasn't broken l being shackled by police and into custody of police they made a mistake and someone should go to jail for it. >> but richard they may. they may. >> he was shackled when the vertebrae was broken. >> you don't know yet. they're investigating. >> exactly. if the opposite way around the person would get

a fun night of chaos and looting and excuse to destroy. to me at this point, this is not about freddie. it's about opportunity. these are people out there taking advantage of a horrible situation. my question to you, how wide is this area of conflict? is this happening in other places? >> you know what we can't know, greg, is what is happening bigger picture. we've heard from the police a short time ago who said they couldn't give us an idea of how many people were here but i can tell you that the crowds were tiny when we first were reporting on this. it was kids who had gotten out of school and as it exploded first on social media and then on national television and radio, the crowds grew and they grew greatly in numbers. are there hundreds? absolutely. are there thousands? i don't know. does it spread beyond this neighborhood? we have no reports that it has spread to other parts of baltimore. for now at least it's confined to this neighborhood. history tells us once you've screwed things up where you live they often go to other areas. ju

more stores looted. overnight, police officers under attack from rioters. the governor declaring a state of emergency. baltimore schools closed today in the interest of student safety. a 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew begins tonight. our correspondent jason carroll was there in the middle of it overnight. he has the latest for us. jason, set the table for us. bring us up to speed. >> reporter: even up until a few hours ago, we were at a rite aid that was set on fire. just when you thought it was all going to be over even at that late hour still unrest. firefighters were able to get there and put the fire out. a lot of people wondering when it will all be over. let me set the scene. we are on northwest avenue. you can look up the street and see state police out in riot gear. armored cars on the streets. all of the debris from the violence that happened yesterday. yesterday, this was a city under siege. the police commissioner saying at one point they were out numbered and outflanked. groups of rioters looted a cvs. they went to a check cashing store and liqu
