and lorain blanco is joining us live at the scene with an update somewhat is happening right now, lorain, dave, firefighters are making a lot of good progress. you can see smoke still coming out of the top of that apartment building. but the good news out here right now is that it's gone from black to mostly white smoke. that means the water that firefighters right now are drenching it with is finally doing some good. at the start of the fire about a quarter after 4 a.m., the building was fully engulfed it. quickly became a two-alarm fire. firefighters say it's an older structure so it spread very quickly. they had to get out and fight the flames from the outside and soon after the roof collapsed. now that the sun sup, the new challenge is trying to keep the walls intact. firefighters have evacuated buildings as a precaution and they'll remain empty for a while. >> we have fire that's running through walls and ceiling and floor spaces of the building. we're also dealing with a roof and third-story collapse that son the backside of the building. so we're still trying to spray water from t

lorain. reporter: good morning, sal. yeah, it is a little windy out here right now. it's a little cold and a little wet. there was actually a wind advisory that went into effect here on the bay bridge just after midnight tonight. it's also on the dunbarton bridge as well as the san matell bridge this morning. we're on the oakland side of the bay bridge right now and the wind is not too terrible. if you take a look at the trees and bushes over here on the bay bridge, you can see they're swaying in the wind right now, but it's not terrible at this moment. of course as you go farther west on the bridge you can expect that the gusts are going to pick up. the gusts on this bridge we're told can get up to 40 miles per hour today. of course, the chp wants to remind you to use caution while you're driving on the bridges today. slow down and don't overreact if your vehicle sways. also, be careful of any high profile vehicles out here. of course they have more difficulty in the winds out here. we're also expecting it to get a little wetter. you want to slow down as well in the

i would like to introduce loraine woodruff long. >> thank you. this has been a wonderful experience for me. i am a parent of two teens, raising them in san francisco and going to san francisco schools. seeing all of you warms my heart. i am going to keep it brief. i want to expand on some of the things we have been doing over three years. i joined the organization three years ago. at that time the police commission had commissioned the police executive research forum to do a study of the police department and out of that, we took that document and use that to embrace the san francisco police department p.a.l. to make sure we were supporting community policing. we have organized and have been pushing on in our organization. the first was community policing and making sure our organization is creating opportunities for police to come in contact with children. we as rick said, we have 5000 kids in our programs every year. we have year-round sports and leadership activities. 800 volunteers working with our organization every year. that includes civil
