host: nick loris?ere are trade-offs and risks in everything we do, and pipelines are no different. it has been sadistically proven, though, that pipelines are the best way to transport oil and natural gas. the pipeline has been studied by the obama administration, which concluded it was safe on multiple occasions, and would not meaning we contribute to climate change. and they we need to look at the alternatives and the trade-offs. i agree that these jobs are temporary, all construction jobs are temporary. we want them to move on to other things. it's a matter of if we do not build the keystone nextel pipeline, what should go through the environmental safety review and permitting processes, and make sure it's what climate owners want. but what are we going to do instead? i think if a pipeline like this is stopped, we can't just think that is the end of the story. we have to look at what the alternatives in place look like for the economy and the environment. that's where i believe a lot of the unintend

joining me now is chicago mayor lori lightfoot.can cities address violent crime without resorting to the failed policies of the past? >> well, i think that's the critical question. we're in a moment, at least here in chicago, where we have transformational levels of resources. we have transformational opportunity, and the question is are we going to work in a transformational way. and that's exactly what we're trying to do here in chicago. what we know historically is that when there's been a spike in violence, almost the primary and only response is to throw more law enforcement resources at the problem. it may temporarily bring down the spike in crime, but it doesn't do anything for the long term root causes of the violence. look, in the short term we have to make sure that our police department is holding violent dangerous people accountable and that we're working with our county prosecutors and the court system to make sure that when we make arrests, we put together good cases, those individuals feel the weight of responsibilit

host: nick loris, c3 solutions? guest: we are funded the same way and we are the conservative coalition for climate solutions, we are a 503 think tank that believe that climate change is real, and it is problematic and we need to address it. and part of the way and a priority to address it is to expand economic freedom but in the united states and around the world. we understand we need more clean energy innovation and we need natural climate solutions and to be more adaptive and resilient. not just in the united states but around the world and understanding that a lot of the future growth will come from developing countries like india and china. the best way to have them meet their clean energy target and emissions reductions and global decarbonization you have to get those costs down and deploy those technologies and we think expanding economic freedom through private innovations through investment and commenting reform and a number of other practical solutions that we can get there. host: what is your view on how

i know, you know, you are hoping to hear good news, lori. i can imagine, as a parent, how incredibly frustrating this is for you. four days of no school for your child, and you still don't know what it's gonna be tomorrow morning. what is your reaction to all of this? >> hi, erin, thanks for having me. um, you know, day to day, i'm pretty -- i feel pretty angry and pretty frustrated. the uncertainty of not knowing how to plan, day to day, um, is -- is so hard and on top of that, i don't know what to tell my son. every day, he says am i going to be in school tomorrow? i don't have an answer for him. and then, his -- and then, i have to give him an answer why, right? so, you know, i have to explain to him the reasons that he is not in school, and i personally don't have a good answer because we have done everything right. you know, really echoing what ceo martinez said. you know, my son is fully vaccinated. he wears a mask every day. um, i got him tested when we -- when he went back from the holidays. his school has, i believe, over 75% vaccin

much like olmstead, lori's experiences before he finally settled a landscape architecture, he was living in new york city as an architect where he would give walking tours of the park. i came to the conclusion that central park was pretty damn good he said. it was an interesting and wonderful place. full of ideas. as luck would have it his architecture firm would to participate in competition in the book as part of the assignment he produced a rendering of every trail and path and tweaking every stone and relay in the park. but after doing so he came to the conclusion that central park by the american artist. from that time lori has headed the olmsted office in landscape education in the olmsted in campus design. we are honored here today to have him kick off then posting them. welcome.
