lori bordonaro joichk us with more on the season extension. lori? >> reporter: kerry, if you can't make it to the beach today, you have to work, no worries. because you still have time. the city officially extended the hours until next sunday, september 13th. that means another week of soaking up the sun, working on your tan before fall sets in. the extra week is a real testament to a successful beach season. the first in a very long time. this year part of the 5 1/2 mile boardwalk reopened after it was destroyed by hurricane sandy and the rest expected to be open by next summer. the boardwalk built with stronger supports and higher elevation. the entire reconstruction project expected to be completed by 2017. of course, no need to wait until then. you can come out today and enjoy the beach. if you can't, once again, you have until next sunday to make it out to most f the beaches here around the city. just keep in mind, if you do iscome out, there's a moderate rip current. keep that in mind when you head into the water. that's the latest from here.
