. >> reporter: for more than 15 years, 39-year-old lori pinkham says she has lived in a waking nightmare big part of my life stopped that day. i couldn't work. i didn't want to spend time with anybody. i would get panic attacks sometimes out of nowhere. it's been really hard. >> reporter: during an open wound that has never healed after she says a man kidnapped her at gunpoint and brutally raped her on an august night in boston 2007. what did that night take away from you? >> my freedom. it took away being able to live my life. i wasn't able to walk in my own hometown without being afraid for my life. >> reporter: prosecutors and police say this is the man who did it, 35-year-old new york corporate attorney matthew nelo who is accused of terrorizing women in the boston neighborhood of charlestown in 2007 and 2008. >> at the time, police put out an alert to warn people about this. there was a climate of fear in the city. >> the suspect is targeting women who are by themselves. >> we do know that perpetrator of sexual violence send to not do it once and stop. that if there's one victim, ch

. >> reporter: lori pinkham was just 23 when she says she was attacked and has lived in fear ever since. what do you remember from that night in 2007? >> he pulled up in his car next to me and kind of cut me off and started yelling to me, like, something like, "hey, do you need a ride?" i was, like, "no, i'm -- i'm okay." and that's when i saw he had a gun in his hand, and he just said, "get in the car." >> reporter: lori says she tried to escape. >> he caught up to me, and he hit me with a gun repeatedly, and that's when he raped me. >> reporter: police had tied lori's attack to three other sexual assaults, but the cases went cold for years until just weeks ago, when fbi agents arrested 35-year-old matthew nilo. prosecutors say they used a public genealogy database to zero in on nilo, tracking him to a corporate event where they say they recovered dna from his drinking glass, then linking that dna to the victims. when you looked at a picture of the suspect, what did you notice? >> his eyes. i just remember them, because they were, like, black. >> reporter: nilo has pleaded not guilty t

one of the victims seeking justice, lori pinkham, is speaking out with her mother by her side to abc's reshef. did you lose hope that they'd ever find the suspect after the fifth year and the sixth year, the seventh year, eight, nine, ten, 11, 12, 13. eventually i gave up hope. nilo recently pleaded not guilty, and this week he was granted the option to post half a million dollars bail, igniting outrage. what do you remember from that night in 2007? i had been out at one of the clubs. i was doing promotion for and i was walking to my car. it was really desolate. he pulled up in his car next to me and kind of cut me off and started yelling to me like something like, hey, i saw you, do you need a ride? and i looked and i was like, no, i'm okay. and that's when i saw he had a gun in his hand. and he just said, get in the car. pinkham says she feared for her life, and she says he hit her with the gun repeatedly before the brutal sexual assault. now she's vowing to face nilo in court as the case moves toward trial. and later on. good morning america, how pinkham says she tried to escape and
