lori, let's start with you. your book is different from the others in the fact that it is an edited volume. and a literary work talk about the process of editing a work by the people's writing. it was somewhere in between herding cats the hard part was deciding who would be the best fit for each of these chapters in the away that i approach that i wanted them to tell mississippi stories i spent a lot of time planning and talking to the people because i knew i couldn't do it myself. i can do it better by tapping into those sources. you wrote the chapter about the slave narrative talk about the narratives and how they fit into our literary traditions. we dealt mostly with the wpa. and there are some are problematic. they were interviewed after the fact. and all of these interviews were transcribed to some extent. see have to look at possible bias at the same time we tried to get as close to the real story as we could. jim, what do you think the readers had found most interesting about the indians in reading your w
