what do you know lorraine? >> reporter: we are live just a few blocks from u-c-berkeley, you can see the fire started 4:20 a.m. the good news is everyone got out of that three story building safely this morning. when they got here the apartment building was fully engulfed. 31 firefighters are on the scene trying to fight that fire defensively and when i say that i mean they are outside of the building because at one point, the fire was so engulfed they had a feeling the top story would collapse so they moved them out of the building. they also removed and evacuated other areas here. several trucks answer officers controlling the scene and they have actually put a police tape out to get residents further from where the fire started. again there are no injuries to firefighters or to residents so that is good news but they are still working furiously to fight the fire from the outside. reporting live from berkeley lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> we will have to see how traffic is working as well an

lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, lorraine. we'll have more on the rain when we check in with sal and mark in a few minutes. you can always check the "mornings on 2" site. >>> christian kafton is live in oakland with new information on an officer-involved shooting. >> reporter: over the course of the morning, i've confirmed with four different neighbors that this was the scene of the shooting a lot of the neighbors seemed very reluctant to come forward and talk about the officer-involved shooting. you can see some of the evidence here. you can see this is some crime scene tape left from the incident. one neighbor told us that the shooting happened just through this gate right there on those stairs here at burch and 90th avenue. we have video of that suspect being taken to the hospital. witnesses say they heard shots around 9:00 last night and saw the officers and the suspect. now, oakland police did conconfirm that officers opened fire on a man they say was armed with a shot gun. there's no word if that man raised that shot gun

lorraine? >> reporter: well, traffic is actually moving right now. one lane is moving. one lane is shut down on highway 13 near park boulevard while caltrans crews clean up the mess from that fallen tree. the tree was actually on the roadway before the fatal crash. there were two crashes. let's take a look at what the scene was like when we arrived here at 4:30. we were first on scene after the first emergency calls. we saw a 20-foot tree across the entire roadway. two different vehicles crashed into that vehicle. the first car with four people inside, crashed, got out of the vehicle and moved to the right shoulder. a short time after, a pickup truck crashed into that tree as well, went airborne and hit that car as well. >> we do know from our plim investigation there does not appear to be any -- preliminary investigation there does not appear to be any -- we've had other incidents where trees have come down either into the roadway or blocking the onramp. >> reporter: when the second vehicle crashed into that tree, it split the tree in half, and a branch flew off, trapp

lorraine is live with what's going on. >> there is one confirmed death. the coroner is on the way as we speak. we arrived first here on scene and when we got out of our live truck we heard a very loud scream and firefighters used chainsaws to try to get tie trapped vehicle under a tree. the entire southbound side of highway 13 is shut down right now. the first calls came in to chp around 4:20 a.m. of a multivehicle accident. they issued an alert about 20 minutes later. according to the website at least two people are injured. one person as we know has just been confirmed dead. now at one point, that person was trapped in a vehicle under that tree. it's about a 20-foot long tree that fell on the roadway. this happened just around 4:00 and right now, again, if you take a look at the other side on highway 13, let's go ahead and pan over to that side. you can see that highway 13 is shut down and traffic is being diverted at park. you want to stay out of this area. it's shut down until further notice. they're still working the scene and also cutting this tree
