for now reporting live lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. >>> time is now 5:02, richmond police are investigating the shooting death of a student as the man and his sister were heading to class. christian captain will tell us more about what happened. >> reporter: we are standing by here at the richmond police station and at last checked, the victim's families had net been notified so they did not release his name. it was a 22-year-old contra costa student who appeared to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. the shooting happened at 7:00 and the police tell us it was a running gun battle between the gunman and a passing car. witnesses say the gunman turned to the man and his sister getting ready to go to class and the gunman opened fire on them. the 22-year-old was hit and the sister sped around the corner but it was too late, the young man died at the scene. we stopped by the scene and found a candle burning in memory of the victim and loss of shattered car glass. detectives have wrapped up the evidence at the scene and it does appear police were able to recover ballistic evide
