one minute after midnight former bart police officer johannes mehserle was released from a los angeles county jail. he served a year for shooting death of oscar grant. granted's supporters demonstrated in oakland last night and new protest is expected in los angeles this morning. amy hollyfield is live in oakland with more on the overnight release and last night's peaceful protests. >> reporter: preparations were in place in downtown oakland just in case things got rowdy. the protests were peaceful. demonstrators were passionate but the rally stayed on message as they marched to city hall. the only disruption was the arrest of two men one who was suspected of spray painting graffiti. protestors feel that johannes mehserle got off easy. mehserle said he thought he grabbed his taser, not his handgun. he was sentenced to two years one of harshest sentences ever given to an officer in an on duty shooting in california. the grant family wanted the maximum of 14 years. mehserle served one year and received one year credit for good behavior. >> friend and family have to go his gravesite and there is
