with me now former los angeles county director, johnathon fielding. you so much for being with us and we've got a lot of questions for you. if you were in charge of this, of trying to contain this outbreak, what would you be doing? >> just the same things as the l.a. county is talking about here. but it's important to know that we don't really have a lot of information. we have number of cases, but we don't really have information on the whole population. we haven't had the test kits to do -- to check really who's -- >> so more test kits is what you'd want? >> well there was a flaw with the test kits distributed earlier, it was giving inconclusive positives and negatives. when people say there's a risk of dying of 2.5% or whatever, we don't know what they -- how many people have asometomatic infection. how many people are able to transmit it well before they've gotten symptoms. >> people who aren't showing any sim tomds but who look healthy and are just passing it around. >> before they get the disease. they've been exsupposed. >> but they're not awar

los angeles county did receive 170. they have a unique relationship to the national stockpile. but that's all we received within the state of california proper. but we're not discurrentlied by that. we are encouraging -- discouraged by that. we are encouraging the federal government and we have direct orders and asks in to do more on the ventilators. but we are doing everything we can to orient our efforts around the world, to get more ventilators in the state. about 3,000 we've been able to bring online. community college system is talking to the head of community college system, which also have been heroic in this. they've provided, just as one example, 60 ventilators and they're also keeping, by the way, all of us safe because community college system is a backbone of our training in the state of california. by some estimates, 70% of our first responders, however one would define them, are trained through that community college ystem. i only offer that because of the conversations we had today. they deserve to be highlighted. protocols continue to make sure that we have safe
