understand right now the latest from seattle up north is that there is activity here in los angeles los angeles county it's been quieter than monday night on monday night we saw hundreds of arrests particularly in the hollywood area most of the arrests through violating the curfew not for looting although that continues again like the pattern we've seen over the past few days we seeing protests peaceful protests by day and when the sun goes down that's when we get the looting with police saying that some of it appears to be organized crime being involved in that. how are these ongoing demonstrations the 8th day now affecting the measures to contain the coronavirus and everyday life for the millions of people in l.a. county. there's several things going on right 1st of all across the united states and particularly in l.a. county in california the coded a pandemic has not really been brought under control i mean the numbers are the highest of all counties in california and here in los angeles we're not as far away as long as in europe and so people are dealing with social distancing measures a lockdown

look at los angeles county which is the epicenter of the outbreak here, the numbers have not gotten any better. we have more than 2,000 new cases yesterday. but what's interesting here is that the county is stopping short of saying that this is because of the protesting that we have seen here for days in los angeles county. and they did ramp up the testing capabilities here in los angeles county, so people who are protesting can get the testing done. but part of the issue here is still the fact that you have more reopenings, more people heading back to work. i talked to the er doctor here who works at different hospitals and he told me that some parts of the county are seeing this hospitalization rate that has just not stopped while others were stabilizing and are now rising back up. so you're seeing it's really more difficult to deal with especially if they have multigenerational homes. >> yeah, multigenerational homes are an issue. >>> let's go to rosa flores, she's in florida which recorded 5,000 new cases for a second day in a row. rosa, tell us how this increase is being explained

as an example, in 1942, late 1942, the los angeles county grand jury launches an investigation of so-called mexican-american youth gangs in l.a. one of the expert witnesses that provides testimony to the grand jury is an l.a. county sheriff named edward duran ayers. this is in his testimony to the grand jury, he argues that, quote, the caucasian, especially the anglo-saxon, when engaged in fighting, particularly among youths, resort to fisticuffs and may at times kick each other, which is considered unsportive. unsportive. but this mexican element considers all that to be a sign of weakness, and all he knows and feels is a desire to use a knife or some lethal weapon. in other words, his desire is to kill or at least let blood. in his testimony, he goes on to compare mexican-american zoot suitors to wildcats that need to be caged. there are numerous instances of judges across los angeles county referring to zoot suitors, mexican-american and african-american zoot suiters, as traveling in wolfpacks, a kind of language and vocabulary that annimalizes folks,. the racialization of juvenile delin
