and we have just learned tonight that ron herrera, who was the president of the los angeles county federation of labor, has resigned from his position. he was among those hurt on that leaked audio was earlier today the la city council president nury martinez stepped down from her leadership position saying that she takes responsibility for what she said. and there are no excuses for her comments. she did, however, not resign from the city council. the offensive remarks were made during a private meeting last year between 3 sitting city council members and that local union leader who has resigned and in this leaked audio, martinez can be heard making racist comments about another council members adopted son. and tonight u.s. senator alex padilla is calling on those 3 council members from the meeting to resign. he released a statement saying in part at a time when our nation is grappling with a rise in hate speech and hate crimes, these racist comments have deep in the pain that our communities have endured. los angeles deserves better. and governor gavan newsom has also put out a statement say
