in the past 24 hours, unreal totals coming in from los gatos. in the higher elevations over 3 inches. that's why again that flooding concern is so high. as we get a look at the rest of the south bay, san jose this past 24 hours, over 1 inch. then we take you up to the north bay. and we saw over 1.75 inches in san francisco. over 2 inches in sonoma. this now puts our two-day rain averages for the lower elevations anywhere between 2 to 4 inches. for the higher elevations, it's more like 3 to 6 inches. we're going to go ahead and get a look at the next concerns in the forecast. that is some scattered rainfall in the overnight hours may produce a little bit of flooding. for the morning commute, lingering rains for slow travel, and the next 48 hours we're tracking another storm system. i have full details on that in about 15 minutes. >> it just keeps coming. >>> in san francisco, take a look at this. a gaming hole right in the middle of a neighborhood. aging infrastructure combined with rushing water, this is the result. the sinkhole is on lake and s

mountain view to los gatos and all of these small communities in between. it will be a very slick, slick commute if you are getting outdoors this afternoon. crossing over areas of the san mateo, the dumbarton bridges, we've got fremont, milpitas, san jose, light rain falling at this hour. the east bay is widespread from antioch through concord, san ramon, livermore, shifting over to the east bayshore line. the light rain continues over richmond, oakland, hayward and into the north bay where we continue to see scattered showers and late rain over areas like san rafael. a little bit in novato. napa reporting a little bit of light rain. i-80 in and out of fairfield through vallejo. you will find the roads wet as well. as we get into the sierra, we have snow falling. tori talked about this a little while ago. there is a winter weather advisory. it lasts until 10:00 this evening which means it will be tough to get over the passes. as aras amounts 2 to 5 inches at 6,000 feet. the higher elevations could pick up 5 to 10 of additional snow for today. that's great n

kpix 5's da lin joins us live from los gatos where all this rain has caused damage but you can also see the benefits. da. >> reporter: yeah, liz. the south bay skies opened up about 40 minutes ago. you can see the light rain coming down, pretty cold, as well. and take a look at santa cruz mountains. the santa cruz mountains, gloomy skies headed toward this way moving in as we speak. some places are unable to pick up all this rain in such a short time. it wasn't raining when this massive tree came crashing down in santa clara this morning. but the ground is so saturated, the tree uprooted and collapsed on to an apartment. no one was injured. near fremont and niles canyon, chopper 5 captured small mud slides littering the roadways. they were quickly cleaned up. with the mud slide, the roof leaks come a contemporary fix we haven't seen in a while. mick cal recently put up -- michael recently put up a tarp to protect his roof. >> we had a minor leak through a vent tap. >> reporter: while some dread the rain others say it's not enough. >> let it rain, let it rain, let it rain. that's all i g

los gatos in the higher elevations, over 3 inches there as well. so one storm, two very strong impressive rain days for us. you can see over the past two days it's averaged anywhere from 2 to 4 inches for most of the bay area. what many of you probably wanting to know, is there going to be any drying coming our way in the forecast. you can so throughout tonight the good news is no heavy areas rainfall expected at 8:00. you'll also see through 11:00 tonight not too much. just a few areas of scattered rainfall. we'll see that scenario through tomorrow morning's commute and then we'll likely hang on to scattered showers through 11:00. i don't think we'll see the final area of this storm system gradually push out until 9:00 on thursday, but here is the thing. we have another storm system shaping up as we head throughout friday at about 1:00. that's going to bring some rainfall up into the north bay. now, this does not look nearly as strong as the storms we have dealt with the past three to five days, but it will bring some measurable rainfall here from

south way, a little bit of shower activity now beginning to approach los gatos. it's knocking on your door. it's not heavy but as we head throughout 6:31, continue to expect areas of rainfall and it will be picking up in intensity. the last thing i want to show you here is we are seeing no heavy rainfall right now across redwood city, atherton, stanford, or palo alto. but check it out on our sky camera network. you can see just how slick the roadways are. it almost probably seems like a heavy rainfall on 101 for tonight. just because of all the water that is on the roadways. no doubt these drivers have their windshield wipers on and you will too even without rainfall the next two hours. so once again, that cautionary wording here of just going a little bit extra slow. you can see when it comes to airport delays, san francisco is the only spot with delays due to weather. still running 156 minutes behind. we've seen this trend for the past four hours. i think it will stay bad through tonight. if you have a red eye flight, you may be sitting at the airport for a whi

time now is 6:30. >>> and traffic is quite the mess on highway 17 near los gatos. kpix 5's kiet do is live there right now where a tree is blocking both lanes. >> reporter: i'm standing in the lanes of highway 17 southbound in the santa cruz mountains and you're looking at the chp roadblock that the officers now have cars turning around at summit road so this is southbound 17. you cannot get through here. you will have to turn around heading in this direction. this of course is the counter- commute direction on the northbound side. that's where all the heavy traffic is in the morning as folks go over the hill into silicon valley. those guys are stacked up well over a mile now forcing cars to turn around at glenwood drive. this tree went down at 4:30 this morning. we do not know the size or type but it is laying across the southbound lanes. that tree took down some power lines. those power lines are now strewn across all lanes of highway 17 blocking it in both directions. we do understand that caltrans and pg&e showed up here on the scene about an hour and 15 minute

lanes in both directions blocked on highway 17 near los gatos.rts. >> reporter: you know, this tree went down and it's about an hour and a half ago so it is blocking all lanes here on highway 17. we are literally standing on highway 17 itself at a chp roadblock. what we're seeing now this is southbound 17 and traffic is getting diverted at summit road. folks are having to turn around and go back the other way. northbound lanes are getting turned around at glenwood. at last report we heard they had about 100 cars standing up there. those guys are turning around at this point, as well. the tree went down somewhere in between laurel and glenwood around 4:30 this morning. we don't know what type of tree or how big it is, but it is blocking the southbound lanes. the other complication is that the tree took down some power lines. those power lines are now strewn across all lanes of highway 17. we don't have an estimated time of re-opening. we have heard that pg&e is on their way. but it is a mess out here and the santa cruz mountains it's dark and fogg

now, the rain started falling around 4:20 in the los gatos area. it's been fairly light but enough to slow down the evening commute for a lot of drivers. now, while recent storms have created a lot of problems for drivers and people in the santa cruz mountains, the bay area needs the rain and a lot more to end the drought. now, in just the last 2 1/2 weeks, the lexington reservoir more than doubled its capacity. at the reservoir in morgan hill a few weeks ago it was 2% capacity. now the uvas is at 23% capacity. people are saying, keep the rain coming. >> when i left it wasn't raining and i just got out of my house started running and and when you start running you don't really care about what's going on and actually it's kind of nice, kind of different. >> reporter: yeah. despite all the recent rainstorms, a lot of water officials in fact all water officials south bay throughout the bay area telling folks to, hey, don't forget to conserve because we still need a lot more water to end the drought. da lin, kpix 5. >>> anotr north bayhill side couldn'
