this started at around 2:00 this afternoon on los gatos almaden road, not too far from good samaritan hospital. you see right here. video shows the flames smoke coming out of that roof there. firefighters say the complex was evacuated. thankfully, no one was hurt. they did have to rescue one cat. crews are investigating what exactly started that fire, which damaged eight apartments in two buildings on capitol hill. it is day three of the trump admistration, and the house is sending the first bill to president trump's desk, aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration. the republican led house passed an amended version of the laken riley act this afternoon. it requires ice to detain undocumented immigrants who are charged, arrested or convicted for committing acts of burglary, theft, larceny or shoplifting. two amendments also included the assault of a law enforcement officer and ax causing death or bodily harm. 46 democrats joined all republicans in support of that measure. mr. trump is also directing the justice department to make identifying undocumented immigrants and prosecuting

crews responded to the building on los gatos and alamuddin road around 2 o'clock this afternoon. flames and smoke were coming from the building. firefighters say 7 units were burned for were extensively damaged. everyone inside was able to safely evacuate, though no injuries reported. the cause is under investigation. there was a major police response in the east bay this evening after resident reported finding a box containing military explosives, pleasant hill police, the walnut creek police department's bomb squad personnel with u.s. air force responded to the home on shirley drive this afternoon and safely removed everything. they say there's no active criminal investigation linked to the incident but no other details were the oakland unified school district is under pressure to close or merge some of its schools. >> according to a letter sent to the district by the alameda county office of education. ust is on track to run out of money by november and we'll be unable to meet its financial obligations unless it makes significant budget changes. usd is currently facing 152 mil

man, we're coming in with a nice day down here across south bay. 66 in los gatos, 68 in san jose, 69,morgan hill, right across the east bay, 64 in vallejo, 65 in hayward. it continues right here through the peninsula, 64 in palo alto up to san francisco, low 60s from the marina to the mission. and for the north bay. got you to 65 in napa and 66 here in santa rosa, now down in southern california. they still need to get through tomorrow afternoon with these strong winds. red flag fire warning has now been condensed. it's expected to expire at 6 p.m. tomorrow, but we still could get some isolated gusts in the mountains up to 70. but that's going to be the max of it. and unfortunately, this is the other thing. i really didn't want to put this on here, but i wanted to give you a heads up. next monday and tuesday we could see more strong wind in california, could get gusts up to about 50 in southern california. so we're going to continue to closely monitor that. for us, it would mean in the lower elevations, maybe 15 to 40 mile per hour winds next monday. again, still a lot to learn about

it started around two this afternoon at an apartment complex on los gatos almaden road, not far from good sam hospital. firefighters say everyone inside the complex did evacuate. nobody hurt. the red cross says that eight apartments were damaged. still too early to figure out how that fire started. well, san jose police say they have busted a crime ring that may be responsible for nearly 70 burglaries all across the south bay. nearly all of them targeting asian american families. today, sfpd shared photos of some of the stolen goods recovered. you can see it there. 700 items stolen from about 70 homes worth about roughly a mill. police say homeowners willingness to share their information was key to cracking this case. investigators from across the south bay worked together to connect dozens of burglaries over seven months, arresting three men. one victim says he's deeply relieved to get his stuff back, but he's still shaken. even today, i don't feel safe. we went out to dinner last friday for the first time. the whole time i was checking my camera. motion detected. who is there? sus
