abc 7 reporter david louie is live in santa clara with the details. david? >> well, the city council's decision not to fund the bureau means that as of august 30th, nobody will be out marketing the city to hold events here. some of the 14 employees impacted have been here a long time. some of them from 11 to 32 years. santa clara's convention and visitor's bureau gets paid $1.5 million to drum up business at the convention center and the nearly 4,000 hotel rooms that surround it. but the 14 employees at the bureau are getting the ax. >> it's devastating, especially when you have 14 people who didn't do anything wrong, who did nothing but support the city of santa clara, talk about the city lovingly and caringly for many, many years. >> the city council decided not to renew an agreement with the chamber of commerce, which manages the convention and visitor's bureau. a preliminary audit raised questions about the rising fees and about discounts given to chamber members and others to rent facilities. the city is concerned it's losing money it shouldn't. >> when

abc 7 news reporter david louie was in court to hear firsthand the argument that turner wasn't given a fair trial. >> the attorney for brock turner used a new word he hopes will ultimately overturner broadcastinger's sexual assault conviction. the word is outercourse and stumped the panel of three appellate justices who asked for an explanation. attorney eric multhaup said it was gratification with clothes on. the defendant was discovered with his clothes on in 2015 while his victim who goes by emily doe was partially nude. the attorney says there was no intent to rape emily doe. the three justices allowed 15 minutes for turner's attorney to speak and the same time for deputy attorney general elisa carlisle who said that sufficient evidence had been presented to jury. turner was sentenced to six months in county jail and given three months' probation. however, he was released in september 2016 after three months. critics called the sentence too lenient. protests were lodged against the trial judge, aaron persky, and a successful recall removed him from the bench in june. turner was a

david louie is live in san mateo's baywood district with the story tonight. david? >> well, dan, the area that was cordoned off was about a mile and a half wide. residents were told to stay in place while police officers and game wardens searched block by block for the mountain lion. now the nearby schools are closed for summer recess, but a summer session was operating at a nearby church. the mountain lion was first spotted in the driveway of a home shortly after 9:30 in the morning. that prompted san mateo police to alert residents of 800 homes to shelter in place while they tried to locate the animal. six hours later, they succeeded in tracking it about three blocks away. it was sedated and a hood placed over its head to encourage the young female to keep her eyes closed while tranquilized. the operation was successful because police officers, along with a warden from state fish and wildlife went slowly and methodically from house to house. >> we didn't get too close and we didn't scare the animal or make a lot of loud noises because we didn't want the animal to
