and it's a delight to be back, especially here in saint louis, starting with the western revolutionary war. all my family is sort of all over in the alton area, although i grew up in indiana. and so i want to talk to you about the eighth regiment of fort, which was the principal british infantry unit in this part of the war, and also specifically about their participation in lieutenant governor henry hamilton's expedition in 1778 and early 1779, when they were captured by george rogers. clark had been sent out in indiana. so i'm going to be moving fairly quickly to many slides. my students of franciscan always say, slow down, talk slower. we're trying to take notes. so i'll try and not move too quickly for you all this morning, this photograph, a beautiful picture from a group of re-enactors in in western new yo representing the king's regiment as they would have looked on campaign in america during the war of independence. so a little bit of background here. this is sort of clark's campaign, the illinois regiment of virginia, the current text of why lieutenant governor henry hamilton
