who had freezing rain but louisville's prepared for it and louisville already had a couple of inches of snow over the weekend so the roads which are pretty good right now were pretty much pre-treated. so not too shabby. last night, you know, things were looking a little bit slick. this morning, pretty much the roads and the sidewalks coated in ice. temperatures are still right about freezing but between the salt and the traffic moving over the roadways, doing okay. throw salt on there, lowers the freezing temperature of water well into the 20s so that's all you need to help. atlanta, no such luck. one, they weren't expecting a whole lot of freezing rain. two, not really prepared as far as pre-salting the roads. cherokee county, especially hard hit last night and this morning. hundreds of accidents around the atlanta metro area and even a few onramps and off ramps and overpasses closed this morning but temperatures are rising quickly. scary stuff. all right. let's go over the maps and show you where the moisture is and what the temperatures are because that's the key. already into the

and rob, we were worried about louisville yesterday. you seem to be right there in the bull's-eye for a really significant ice storm. how did it turn out? >> the rains or the freezing rain has stopped. i don't know for sure if that's long-term, but we're still below freezing. so that's the issue here, so what fell last night in the form of sleet and freezing rain is still here on this railing, it's still here on this sidewalk, making for a slick go to work and more importantly, it's still on these trees that have become very, very brittle from the ice that has accumulated. it hasn't been quite enough to break some of these tree limbs which will then take down these power lines. all in all, it could have been a lot worse, certainly if you think back two years ago when this city was paralyzed by a devastating ice storm, so far that hasn't happened. the roads have been treated. they salted them again last night, that brings the freezing temperatures well down into the 20s so. the main roads aren't bad. you go outside the city, and the seco

the weather channel's julie martin is in louisville, kentucky, in the thick of things. like? >> reporter: at this hour a lot of people teetering around here on the louisville sidewalks. this was completely covered in ice this morning. we had several hours of freezing rain. it did do quite a number on the roads. coated the power lines. all of the major problems have been averted. we haven't seen any major catastrophic accidents much like we saw yesterday in some of the other southern states where five fatalities were reported. the power company tells us everything is working all right. this system is continuing to track to the east. next on target north carolina, maryland and virginia. they are going to be getting hit with possibly more of this stuff. what was our saving grace is the temperatures started warming up fairly early which helped to melt a lot of this stuff. >> julie, thank you. >>> new details about a bomb investigation at a home in new haven, connecticut. police received a call from someone in a second floor apartment who smelled something suspicious. no ied

there were records set all over the east today all the way from daytona beach -- 24 degrees -- louisvilleroanoke, 10 degrees. we will continue to see that overall cold pattern as we go to the next 24 hours, with more strong northwesterly winds. there is an area of low pressure that will move to our south. probably close enough to give us a bit of light snow on thursday. maybe an inch or two, especially you folks to the south. in the meantime, for overnight tonight and tomorrow morning, look at the wind chills. it will be 10, feeling like five to 2110 degrees. only feeling about 20 degrees. during the afternoon, it will feel only about 20. tomorrow morning, dress warmly and safely. temperatures -- the actual temperature will be into the low teens in the suburbs. a windy afternoon. on thursday, i have increased the chances for light snow, down towards fredericksburg, 40% chance. another one we will keep an eye on for sunday. you can keep posted on the weather all the time on tbd.com. we have a blog of nice presents for aspiring young meteorologist. here's to the believers. the risk-takers.

that's been over lexington, louisville, cincinnati, mostly central and northern kentucky really the problem area for the ice. the snow has been prevalent around indianapolis, we already picked up about an inch or two and now that is starting to extend now moving into all of west virginia and eventually that will slide through areas of washington, d.c. and richmond, richmond could end up with 3 to 5 inches of snow out of this. after last year's blockbuster season, it's amazing we're already getting another storm. here's a look -- closer look at the radar, huntington, west virginia, all snow but freezing rain through kentucky. not quite seeing a lot of the snow hit the ground. the air is dry there but it'll moisten up and we will see it going up to roanoke and charlotte during the morning commute. d.c. to richmond as we go throughout probably the end of the rush hour more like midmorning, it'll be a daylight snow event for d.c. and areas like alexandria. the highest totals in the mountains, 6 to 10 inches and this little band of 3 to 6 goes through richmond, so, lynn, philadelphia, new york,
