so, it what what i would call a high-touch low-tech environment in which people could provide input. so, one of the themes of western soma, in every meeting in every town hall was always the theme of the public is always welcome. and, so, what i'd like to do in some of these slides is to talk about the very deep meaningful commitment to community involvement. this is a simple model that talks about the levels of community. and you can see down at the bottom is that people could be basically informed. but at the very top, the role for citizen power really rests in having citizens either have control, have power such as be able to provide input to direct the conversations and to be truly a partnership. and, so, that was the intent of the level of community input. this statement about being a citizen planner actually came from what we were trying to do in the second town hall. this is the handout from the second town hall that everybody got, and it says that one of the things that we wanted to do is to create citizens planners. a citizen planner is a resident, small business owners, com

i've been trying to do a story about women in tech because there aren't enough no matter how you look at it. ceos, engineers. the percentages are woefully low. so we had a round table that we set up at facebook and they insisted on having it there. cheryl sandberg stopped by to lend her surntd and she's coming out with a book in a couple of months. it's something that i think -- it's so frustrating because women have so much purchasing power and always have, especially online now. and a lot of the start-ups are commerce-related and maybe even female-oriented, yet funding isn't quite there. >> is it -- >> for those who don't follow every bit of facebook, cheryl sandberg the number 2 at -- >> sure. >> what's the issue? where's the problem? is it that venture firms aren't -- >> so i'll give you an example. i talked to one prominent vc. will silverin. all of your problems are men. why do you not have any women who are partners at your firm? and he gave the binder full of women answer. we interview candidates. we always look for good women. but we just try and hire the best candidate and we haven't -- >> they don't know enough of them, right? >>

tech sector is the best performing group today. check out shares of apple after hitting a nine month low last week. today it's jumping about 5% or nearly $30 in today's session. apple also now putting the correction territory in its rearview mirror. plus the company announced it has approved its 1 millionth iphone app today since the phone's 08 launch. 1 million apps. s&p pretty stunning, big jump here, erased all of last week's losses, lifting back up to 200 day moving average. bullish investors are looking for it to close above that level today, if it does so, we will see what happens tomorrow, but certainly would be a good sign for the bulls. and so beyond optimism about a budget deal, what else was out there? the market got a push from a pair of housing numbers, to its highest level in more g than six years. you can see confidence in some of the homebuilder stocks here. housing names rallying on the news. plus existing home sales beat estimates. we've got crude oil rallying but not on good news. look at today's sharp jump. it's a manifestation of tension between israel and hamas and the rocket
