i love to talk a bell will -- about lowell high school. i studied political science with a concentration in public administration. i worked eight years, largely in the public sector. then, earned a master's degree from carnegie-mellon in pittsburgh pennsylvaniamy work . i spent time as an executive director for nonprofit on the hill. i was assistant to a wonderful person named julie middleton. the park that worked at was formally known as the hunters point community foundation. we did several programming for kids in the neighborhood. i also have a background in politics on both sides of the day here in san francisco and oakland. i have done fund-raising for different candidates. i have work experience with the federal reserve bank of san francisco. i am most proud of the work i have done for myself. i started a business called power forward, a social media and public policy consulting firm. >> why did you choose to return and live in san francisco? what motivated you to run? >> what motivated me was my love of san francisco. i see the chan

so for example at maybe a high end school like lowell ore gunn you might have bullying because you're not taking enough ap class. i have heard this and there is so mush pressure and criticized by the peers if they're not smart enough. in other schools it's the opposite and bullied because they are smart when that is not the krult. maybe in texas where it's a different culture that we saw in the movie that perhaps football is everything and if a child isn't good at sports they're an outcast. i would like to ask how or if addressing the cultural needs at each school how can we -- is this all one way of doing this, or do you feel there are different needs in different communities? and i think perhaps the law enforcement folks feel the cultures in the communities and see that come out in the adults. i would like to hear about how do you affect a culture and even in san francisco we have many cultures affecting what is valued, what is criticized. >> you know i think that richard touched upon this. it's a relationship of power and it's clearly going to differ from community to community; ri

a couple years ago while working on a plan for lowell, massachusetts, old high school friends joined us at merrimack street, the heart of a lovely night and century downtown. our group consisted for adults, when one toddler in a stroller and my wife's pregnant belly. we waited for the way to change. lost in conversation. maybe a minute passed before we saw the pushbutton signal request. so we pushed it. the conversation and fans for another minute or so. finally we gave up and jaywalk. the same time a car coming from the corner of 45 miles an hour on a street widened to these traffic. the resulting nearness fortunately lets no scars, but will not be forgotten. stroller jaywalking is a surefire way to circumvent peer, especially when it goes to write. only consolation messiahs in a in a position to do some in about it. as i write these words, i'm on the road with my family. nothing new baby in a sling and a toddler alternates between stroller and his own two feet depending on train and frame of mind. interesting to compare experience with the one in lowell and more to the point in mos

the high school with the highest percentage of election day workers was thurgood marshall with 74% of their kids registering. 74 turned up. that was great. lincoln and galileo and lowell was part of this program. i want to thank the students for this. i want to reach out to the families and the k-12 and universities. san francisco state we were able to register 3,000 students. and we had the highest number of provisional ballots. we had 600 on that campus. and so this upcoming year we have a few things on the agenda. the department of director is up for review. that is starting in may, and we are starting work on that already. the director is interested in improving accessibility issues. s -- we have requirements of the machines old. and we have received complaints of voters not able to access the cards or not seeing the ballots. so we will work on that this coming year. and is the other issue is the issue of privacy around voter information. one of the big of the challenges that the department has is to be sure that people get the information they need to vote. many voters prefer this information to be kept private. we have to figure out a way to either have an e-mai
