[applause] mrs. mcbath: thank you so much mike thompson and thank you so much to my colleague and classmate representative hayes who is a bedrock and truly grateful to have her standing on the front lines for gun safety. today is a very, very difficult anniversary, one on a list of far too many in this country. 11 years ago today i was still reeling from the pain of losing my own son, jordan, when the news broke of a shooting at an elementary school. 26 families joined a club that no parent wants to be a part of. when 20 children and six of their teachers were murdered in their classrooms. babies were robbed of their privilege of growing up. i watched that and made me sick to my stomach as our leaders offered empty thoughts and hollowed prayers and our nation stood by as we saw gun violence rip apart our communities again and again and again. i am so proud that we made historic progress in the five years since i came to congress. but there is still so much more work that needs to be

but joining me now, congresswoman lucy mcbath, democrat of georgia.esswoman, for, us thank you for joining us. and before we get into what's happening in georgia with this new voting map, yesterday the texas supreme court post at lower court ruling granting and abortion to a woman who's on child has a fatal condition and is unlikely to survive once born. the mother is already about 20 weeks pregnant. your reaction please as abortion becomes more and more of a political issue ahead of the general election? >> most certainly, i did see that story on television. it was absolutely heartbroken over the first and foremost, that woman had to make those kinds of decisions and choices. i don't want to ever think anyone can truly understand how painful it is to make those kinds of decisions, i myself have had several miscarriages and a stillborn. so it's always difficult and i always think those decisions should be made between that mother, her loved ones and her health care providers. so i think increasingly with that breakdown of row across the country, we ar

they dismantled lucy mcbath's district, and that's a coalition district, it's hispanic, black, and asianrs who make up a majority of the district and collectively tend to vote for democrats in that state. dismantling that district kept the partisan balance for republicans here, which seems to be what the goal was. and the judge may well say this isn't okay. you have not complied with my order, and he could appoint a special master to redraw the maps, sort of like what we saw in alabama. perhaps more influentially, this map could end up at the supreme court because republicans say only single group minorities are covered by the voting rights act. these coalition districts which are increasingly common and multiracial, multiincreasingly diverse country, they're very common, so republicans say we complied with the order and only single groups are covered by the voting rights act. >> that essentially means there are people who want to run for office who don't really know where they're going to run necessarily, right? >> i think this happens all the time, there's so many districts that are up
