abc7 news reporter lucy pena joins us in our newsroom. you spoke to public health officers today. what are they telling you about the new end date for the state's mask mandate? >> reporter: dan, i spoke to several public health officers who tell me they are glad california is finally announcing a date for people to look forward to and for counties to prepare. the current mask rule says people fully vaccinated don't need to wear a face mask outdoors unless they're in crowded places, but in four weeks that will change. after mounting pressure and five days after the cdc's mask guidance. today dr. mark ghaly, california's secretary of health and human services said nothing will change in our state until june 15. >> this four-week period will give californians time to prepare for this change. while we continue to relentless focus on delivering vaccines particularly to underserved communities and those who were hard hit throughout. >> reporter: dr. ghaly said they reviewed the evidence by the cdc and agree with the science. but california needs more time. currently over 50% of californ
