you own lululemon in the joet etf.t are your thoughts about the quarter and then about the thoughts about some of the speculation that, you know, the high-end consumer may be getting tired, may be getting worn out? >> i think you have to try and simplify this conversation the best you possibly can if you own lululemon and extension if you own nike because you have to be careful being very complicated in saying, okay, this is a larger readthrough on the overall state of the consumer. yes from a fundamental standpoint you have the first quarter for lululemon where you sit back and say, okay, i have disappointment. i have disappointment because they delivered -- they delivered on the earnings, but they really didn't deliver in terms of what their guidance might be. they see something that they're somewhat concerned about should that make me concerned? i'll say this. this is a company that has in the past disappointed in that regard and quickly recovered. so be very careful dismissing lululemon not to recover quickly. with

the same could be said of lululemon. in this case those are representative of stocks that are bit expensive. optimistic, given the long track records. as a result, when something goes wrong, you see a significant decline. vonnie: how much are you advising people to hedge their bets and have something safe going on in their poor folio? where is that for you and your clients? ellen: you need to have a barbell portfolio. the semiconductor names and software names, absolutely. they are reasonably valued. i wouldn't say they are cheap, but they are reasonably valued and the growth is there, the demand is there, you need to balance that with value. particularly for dividend paying stocks. last year value took it on the chin. even january and february of this year value took it on the chin compared to growth. but the market has broadened out. small caps, outperforming, mid-caps, outperforming. value, outperforming. the broadening of the market is very healthy. you want exposure to the quality , but also the value and dividend f

i want to start with lululemon because we are looking at a titanic move in the shares of lululemon.as it really that bad? >> the results were actually very good, i think it's the guidance that has investors concerned. the slower start to one q with traffic weaker than expected and conversion which means that they need to improve the product. we think that's what's causing some of the downside we've seen today. as they improve product and move forward, lululemon is a strong brand. we see 3 theirx strategy able to drive their target to double sales ahead of time. katie: maybe a light at the end of the tunnel. shares are currently down by the most since march 16, 2020. that was a pretty bad day as you can imagine at the onset of the pandemic. let's talk about nike because it seems like it's a different story. you look at what nike said with sales that will decline by the low single digits in the first half of the fiscal year. >> the near-term for nike is definitely very choppy. they also did say that sales will turn positive in the second half of their fiscal 2025 and end the year on a

what is your view on lululemon and retail? >> lululemon had a tremendous year. you have to talk about nike as well. lululemon is the stock to own. relatively speaking, it is trading 32 times forward pe. on the five-year average, that is inexpensive. lululemon is continuing to bring a quality product to the market. i think leululemon will continu to move higher. >> you mentioned nike as well. some questions about competition from upstarts and what others call a lack of innovation. >> if you look at the one-year, lululemon is up 1% and nike down. i have a couple of teenage kids and everyone wants to wear nike. you will see the laggard come back. it has been rough sledding for nike. it provides opportunity to buy from an investor perspective. >> gunjan, what about the retail consumer and sector? >> that is the big question moving forward. wall street has a high expectation for the consumer and earnings. that's what has driven the rally in the stock market. the consumer spending got off to a slow start at the start of the year. powell did not seem so concerned about

that is the lululemon problem.s it relates to the nike problem, nike is going through an identity crisis in a way. they are making a lot of management changes. they went through a restructuring. they acknowledged they need to improve the product innovation which has been lacking. this has been a movie we have seen before with nike about a decade ago with the pipeline product innovation called. they had to recover with the stock fall. they are seeing that play out again with nike. that is why we don't like both. we reduced price target for nike this morning. with lululemon, again, we had a sell rating or underperform rating with this company. >> the price target is $300. that is below the $420 it is trading today. >> the stock had a market cap before the print up $60 billion. you brought up fedex in the comments. fedex and lululemon had the same market cap. does that make sense? i don't think so. the market cap of lululemon is $$42 billion. for a company that generates $10 billion of revenue. we have seen this movie
