lydia hu is in pittsburgh with more details on how all of this could play out in court. hi, lydia?ey there, taylor. good to be with you. u.s. steel and nippon steel are asking for an expedited review of their lawsuits because their timeline for getting a deal done if they can is june. so they need the court to look at their lawsuits as quickly as possible. they want the cfius review that was conducted by the biden administration to be set aside and to allow for a new cfius national security review to unfold under the trump administration. i spoke with the u.s. steel ceo david byrd on his thoughts of how the biden administration handled the review. >> the president of the united states shamefully, shamefully tainted the cfius process from the very beginning. we respected the process. and that was a mistake that we made. we are owed due process and it sends a terrible message to our workers and a terrible message to our best allies around the world that the our country does not respect the rule of law. >> reporter: and mr. byrd also talked about the union, the united steelworkers, an

lydia hu spoke to us steel ceo. what do we know, lydia? >> good morning there, dana.ng that u.s. steel and nippon steel are filing a lawsuit about biden's executive order blocking the sale. they said biden affected them with politics. they want a new review under the trump administration after president-elect trump takes office. dana, it's not clear that review, if it were to happen, would lead to a different result because president-elect trump has said he also would block the sale of u.s. steel. in fact, trump posted this just this morning on truth social quote. why would they want to sell u.s. steel now when tariffs will make it a much more profitable and valuable company? wouldn't it be nice to have u.s. steel once the greatest company in the world lead the charge to a greatness again? it can all happen quickly. dana, i asked u.s. steel ceo about trump's plans for tariffs. he says it shows trump cares about the american steel industry and workers but u.s. steel needs nippon's cash and tech technology. >> the investments coming are so extraordinary but the know how

lydia hu has the story. what's this about, insects and slime?s really disturbing, stuart. those are just some of the unsanitary conditions that are being revealed by newly-released inspection reports. you'll remember that last year, a troubled bore's head plant in virginia closed after it was 60 people were sickened at least and another 10 died from a listeria contamination originating with that plant. these new records show unsanitary conditions exist at three more meat plants and that these issues go back six years. you mentioned the slime and the insects and inspectors also saw equipment covered in meat scraps, green mold, flaking paint, and in one case a puddle of blood, debris and trash, and also condensation falling on to the foods. a boar's head spokesperson said these reports do not meet our high standards and under the guidance of the boar's head food safety advisory we are adopting and implementing enhanced food safety interventions and programs across the entire company. the company says it does continue to operate its plants under no

lydia hu in pittsburgh for us. what's u.s. are they saying about this? >> reporter: well, the cleveland cliffs' ceo, lorenzo gone sal stress, he says he saw this lawsuit coming, and he's fully prepared to defend himself in court. he did not the discuss directly the merits of the accusations which are that cleveland cliffs conspired9 with the union to block the sale of u.s. steel, but he did talk about whether he would make another bid himself to buy u.s. steel. recall that cleveland cliffs offered $54 a share in a cash and stock offer to buy u.s. steel, and that competed with nippon's $55 per share offer, all cash there. well, gonsalves says that's off the table, he's not going to revisit. >> new york i'm not. i'm not if. the situation has changed. the backdrop of the market changed. we have a new president coming to town, and tariffs are coming. what they're trying to do is -- [inaudible] >> reporter: and now we see u.s. steel and nippon, you know, filing these lawsuits against the government, against cleveland cliffs, agains
