i'm lynda kinkade. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is telling troops the next stage of the war, the ground offensive is coming. with just one mission, in his words, to smash hamas. his comments come amidst concerns over the hostages and the humanitarian crisis in gaza, where the death toll is still rising. at the united nations security council tuesday, secretary general antonio guterres drew backlash when he appealed for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. >> i have condemned unequivocally the horrifying october 7 acts of terror by hamas in israel. nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring, and kidnapping of civilians or the launching of rockets against civilian target. it is important to also recognize the attacks by hamas did not happen in a vacuum. the palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occasion. but the grievances of the palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by hamas and those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective puni

i'm lynda kinkade.his is "cnn newsroom." i want to bring you up to speed with the latest on the war between israel and hamas. israel says it's carried out more than 100 air strikes in gaza overnight. reportedly killing a commander responsible for some of the hamas atrocities in israel last weekend. the palestinians say the strikes are taking a devastating toll on gaza civilian residents. they say about 300 people were killed in a 24-hour period ending sunday morning. more than 2,300 palestinians have been killed since the crisis began with over 9,000 wounded. palestinian officials also say gaza is running out of water, receiving about 5% of what it did before the conflict. the u.n. warns some people are drinking water from agricultural wells, which could lead to outbreaks of waterborne diseases. hundreds of thousands of palestinians are moving south, and the egyptian foreign minister says the rafe crossing border is open but egypt is not letting foreigners in until aid is allowed into gaza. former israe

i'm lynda kinkade. new satellite images appear to show egypt's sealing off the gaza border between aid convoys. take a look at these images by max art technology taken tuesday afternoon showing an unbroken shadow of a cement slab wall which egypt constructed after israeli strikes bombed the roadway on the gaza side. the images come as eight aid trucks out of the 20 entered gaza tuesday. and the united nations is once again warning that the enclave needs aid, especially fuel. >> almost more important than anything else is fuel. so far, fuel has not been around into the strip. fuel is extremely urgent because without fuel, the trucks and -- cannot move. without fuel, the generators cannot produce electricity for hospitals, for bakeries, and for the water desalination plants. >> the u.n. relief and works agency is also warning it will be forced to halt operations in gaza by wednesday night if no fuel is delivered. israel has ruled out any fuel being allowed to enter gaza because it claims hamas may steal i

i'm lynda kinkade. we've just received word from the u.s. embassy in israel that the rafah border crossing between egypt and gaza is expected to open this hour. we don't know how long it could stay open. the border has been closed for weeks with neither people nor goods passing through. the embassy is warning the situation could become chaotic if too many people try to cross the border at once. >> after being held hostage for two weeks in gaza, an american woman and her teenage daughter are free following their surprise release late friday. 17-year-old natalie raanan, who had just graduated high school, and her mother, judith, are from illinois. they were visiting family close to gaza when they were taken hostage by hamas. >> we share in the relief that their families, friends, and loved ones are feeling, but there are still ten additional americans who remain unaccounted for in this conflict. we know that some of them are being held hostage by hamas along with an estimated 200 other hostages held in gaza. they include men, women, young boys

i'm lynda kinkade with the latest on the israel/hamas war. an israeli ground offensive appears all but inevitable. authorities in gaza saying more than 4,300 palestinians have been killed in the past two weeks after the hamas terror attack in israel which killed more than 1,400 people with around 200 others missing or captured. hundreds of armored vehicles along with thousands of israeli troops are now poised to strike at hamas at a moment's notice. on saturday, the idf chief of staff again repeated what they've heard all week, that "we will enter gaza." an idf spokesperson told cnn it's not a question of if at this point, only when. >> the timeline, you know, that changes according to many variables on the ground, in the air, and across the sea. the important thing is that the idf will conduct significant military operations in order to defeat hamas, in order to bring our hostages home, and in order to fundamentally change the security situation that we have in southern israel, and frankly, all of israel. >> in response to the recent escalat
