let's discuss more with cnn political comment ator doug high and lynn sweet and daniel litman. daniel, what are you hearing about the likelihood that taxes will actually get done before the end of the year? >> i think there's one thing that unites republicans and has for decades, it's cutting taxes. so even with an un -- a mer curial figure in the white house, across capitol hill, republicans will probably be able to unite on this. they know they can't go into the mid-terms next year with having accomplished nothing. so it's just a matter of some of the details but i think there are several republican senators that have real concerns whether this is going to increase the debt and deficit too much. and so far they don't have good answers yet from the white house and from their leaders, they need to resolve those because i don't think republicans can be a party of fiscal responsibility if they are expanding the debt by billions and trillions of dollars. >> that is a fact, doug the gop tax plans will increase the deficit. the senate plan completely gets rid of the state and local

also lynn sweet. lynn, you first, so how much trouble potentially is jared kushner in, based on these developments? >> i think the trouble remains to be seen, because i think right now, what the senate is trying to do is show abbe lowell, the attorney who is a veteran of these veginvestigati, is that they are going to find out things even if kushner doesn't want to volunteer them. i think all this does, at this stage, is make him aware that he needs to be forthcoming because one way or the other, this timeline and the story is going to come out and maybe -- i think the place where the investigation right now is that maybe mr. kushner, why don't you offer up information, tell the story, and fill in the blanks, rather than make us go through all of this matching e-mails, which is what they do. that's how they find out these things. they have the ability to go eve everywhe everywhere. >> you ask the questions, we're going to answer them accordingly. if it doesn't go any further, nor will their client. >>
