with me is lynn sweet and andre bauer. welcome to both of you. andre, i want to start with you.s donald trump trust american intelligence services? >> well, i haven't spoken with him directly. among the agencies themselves, they have different understanding. they don't all agree as well. the cia has a different director than the fbi. the fbi has almost like an a.g. they have to make sure that they have enough to prosecute where the cia goes. a lot more on what they feel to be the situation. agencies disagree but i think anybody is fair and reasonable to question if they believe everything they've heard from their government. you know, i love my government but that doesn't mean i always take everything they tell me. as president of the united states, i hope he questions the same old and same old in washington because that's why he got elected. >> the fbi and cia are on the same pages. they both think it was russia and the cia thinks the russians did it to put donald trump in the white house. so they are not completely on different pages but the difference is the cia has a russian

chicago sun times washington bureau chief lynn sweet, and niles stanch. good to see both of you. nn, you have been covering this president for a very long time. what did you make of his comments surrounding the idea that i could have won? >> well, this was in the context of a very long nostalgic interview that went back to his beginning days in politics in chicago with david axelrod, and chris, i think he said that because he took, intended or not, a swipe at hillary clinton's campaign in which he talked about, and his belief that if he could have been entitled or eligible for a third term, he could have made it work. who is not not surprised that donald trump wouldn't resist taking a swipe back at it? >> let's go back to this idea that it isn't really a great thing for hillary clinton. in fact, a minute after donald trump's tweet, she tweeted, quote, the holidays are a time to be thankful for our blessings. let's rejoice in this season and look forward with renewed hope and determination. i know we're talking about what's going on between the president and the president-elect, bu

first term he talked about issues -- well, he was asked by lynn sweet about the issue with skip gates and the police officer in boston and that was a knee-jerk reaction that caused a whole crescendo of police issues for this president and he had to have the beer summit. then later on in the first term we had the trayvon martin issue where he said "that could be me." so we saw issues and in the second term he became a person we saw as, wow, he's engaged in the community more, talking about black issues more, he feels at ease. so it was interesting to report the dynamic of the first black president first term versus the second term. he had nothing to lose second term. he had a second term. >> the skip gates issue is interesting. so this was the issue of the officers coming into his cambridge home and even after it was clear he was -- that it was him and it was his home they arrested him and the president said that was stupid that they acted in a stupid way. and i remember hearing the reaction to the coverage of that, that the president was so annoyed that we made that the issue instead
