to deal with this, we have parking control officers that are provided by m.t.a. they go in front of our sweepers and pass out citations to people that are parking the wrong way. once the sweepers sweep past in san francisco, you may park behind the street sweeper. we all know parking is a big issue. north beach hasn't been swept since the eighties because of opposition. but we are getting a lot of requests to sweep. basically our trucks are 10 feet wide. we stick the brooms out and they are may be 12 feet wide. >> there are a lot of blind spots when driving a large truck pedestrians and bicyclists and cars. and navigates this 22,000-pound truck through the city. >> we involve the public here -- to adhere to traffic laws. these routes were developed back in the eighties around the capability of the sweeper. things have changed since then so we have to adapt. luckily, public works is embracing technology and working on a system to alter our maps. this is literally cut and paste -- cut and paste. we will have a computer program soon that will be able to alter the ma

but just last month, our m.t.a. implement our muni forward program so much faster than before. as some of you will know, we have this thing called the quick build program. we applied it to bike lanes where we go in and engage with a community in the corridor and do some pilot implementation with some cheap and easily reversible materials with paint and plastic posts. you've seen it and some of it looks ugly and slash dash in part because we wanted it to that way. we wanted to get data and make adjustments as we go along. in the corridors where we've made these bike lanes, we've seen huge increases in bike ridership. we've also been able to generate trust with the businesses and residents in those corridors. we've also been able to make adjustments in realtime based on the data. we then make a report and decide to make the changes permanent. then there will be a separate project that uses concrete and trees and nice materials. we want to take all of that success and apply it to muni. we've already seen the muni forwa

[applause] >> next is the partner at the san francisco bicycle coalition. >> good morning. i am claia. i am the organizer for the bicycle coalition. for the last five years i worked on advocacy in district six. you grew up in the tenderloin and live in the south of market. traffic is superimportant to me. i know what it is like to bike, skateboards and bike on streets without the proper infrastructure. it is not safe. town send is one of the important streets in soma for biking, walking and transit with bus lines connecting. town send is a critical connection to get through soma and beyond. when this project was under threat of a year's long delay we made sure the city didn't drop the ball. we are thrilled today we get to celebrate these improvements we won together. before the changes people were walking in the streets because there was no physical sidewalk

so that's something that we continue to track with m.t.a. staff. m.t.c. directed staff at the time to establish a transit blue ribbon panel to make recommendations for future funding from the cares act. and to provide guidance for transit operators to ensure that regional connectivity is maintained with a focus on equity. and this really means ensuring that transit-dependent communities and essential workers are able to maintain access to jobs and transit. we're working with the commissioners to provide input to this process. on the federal front, again we continue to work with partner agencies to identify and advance san francisco's priorities for future potential relief packages or infrastructure bills. additional near-term relief needs include state and local governments, of course, which include state and local departments of transportation, transit systems, which will continue to need funds and support beyond the initial cares act three. and also the toll agencies of the nation, who are seeking $9 billion to replace lost user fees. on the long-range
