interesting stories that has a current nature to it is the story of the tracy family here in macon, georgiahe is replicated on this sign here talks about his life and he was a brigadier general and buried here in rose hill. his father was the second mayor of macon in 1825 and actually hosted general lafayette when he came through macon at about that same time in 1825 red but the family was originally from new york and edward tracy junior had a brother and he was a major in the confederate army and fighting with generally and virginia and he was killed. and it hurts about how this worked. so francis tracy, the cousin came down and found the body and dress him up like a federal officer and there was a lot of hostility on both sides about the enemies. and all of a sudden there was a brouhaha about a confederate officer being buried there and some say that he is the only officer, confederate officer buried above the mason dixon line. but it's interesting that all of a sudden this thing that happened 150 years ago would engender such discussions and debate and research. it was a fascinating time

macon is located right in the middle of the state of georgia. one of our claims to fame is that we are about six miles from being geographically center so we are real easy to find. i would say that macon's location and participation in the civil war are significant. there are a lot of stores but one of my favorites is a house known as the cannonball house. believe it or not, during the war, when general wilson's army was trying to decide whether or and burn it oron to go around, there was an artillery fight that ensued. there are two different versions of the story as you might imagine. one version is we fought them off. the other version is they decided we were not worth their time and trouble. the essence of it is that while they were shelling the city, cannonball literally hit the sidewalk in front of the cannonball house and the cannonball did not explode. instead, it down stand landed on the front porch and rolled through the front door of the house which was standing open and accountable house is still there and is a museum today and attrac
