madison, that's very exciting. you read a bunch of cases, then you read articles about the cases, then you read articles about the theory of law in the articles about the cases. but sometimes you skip the text altogether. but what happened to me was this. you know, like every professor walter -- [inaudible] for those who recognize the reference, i dream of writing a best-selling book, right? retiring to the bahamas, drinking rum through a straw, forgetting the whole thing. and not long ago i spent a year and a half trying to do this. i was writing proposals for real blockbuster books. i thought some of them were pretty wood good. the founding fathers' quick weight loss guide, i thought, had money in it. but none of them ever got past the agent's desk, much less to the editor's. and then one day i had a thought, and it was this, you know? i remembered my days as a starving novelist and freelancer, and i thought, dude, you have every writer's dream. you have an indoor, reasonably well-paid job that you can't be fired
