mahan voted no. the two unions represent about 4500 city employees. the higher pay required city councile to eliminate some vacant job positions to offset the pay raises. the mayor has been quite outspoken in his opposition to the extent of those pay hikes. i've been very clear about the raises. i think we should we should give, which are above our historical average and are pretty aggressive. i refuse to sign up for and endorse raises that are unsustainable. that put us in a in a position of potentially having to lay folks off and require reductions in the years ahead. now, mayor mahan said that projections show the city could see a drop in tax revenue in the coming years, and that could lead to budget cuts. a man who lost part of his vision during a protest against the murder of george floyd will receive a $3 million settlement from san jose. michael acosta was among the demonstrators who took to the streets protesting floyd's death. san jose police used tear gas and fired rubber bullets to try to control demonstrators. and acosta lost his left eye after being hit by one of the project
