let us be clear at the end of the day, mahmoud ahmadinejad is nothing more than a bully and a dictator. his regime uses every tactic they can to subdue and terrorize their own people and we need to recognize this phony regime for what it is. it's a killer of freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of press. and i believe that when history is written that the record of this terrorism regime in the 21st century will%compare, sadly, to those same brutal dictatorships that we witnessed in the 20th century. i'm talking about hitler, stalin, tojo and mussolini. that is a level of despotic dictatorship that we are witnesses today in iran. so, therefore, this resolution before us confirms the support of all iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights and civil liberties. it condemns the ongoing violence and human rights abuses against the people of iran by their government and urges immediate release of all political prisoners detained by this regime. house resolution 1457 also calls for the freedom and democracy for the people of iran, including fair, democratic and ind

we fill up our gas tanks that we end up sending money to some places, some people, some -- mahmoud ahmadinejad in iran and chavez in venezuela. i'm convinced some of these countriee use our money to hurt us. if it were so easy to recover oil we would have done that. a lot of of it is in hard-to-reach places as we found out. the deep water horizon spill. not just danger, but calamity and disaster. we have to be smarter than this. i realize we're going to be dependent on petroleum in this country for sometime but i hope, if nothing else, that we will use this awful experience to do what einstein encouraged when he said in adversity lies opportunity. in the midst of all of this defined the opportunity not just to stand up and meet your obligations as i think mr. willis you're able to do on behalf of b.p. but we will find a way to move away from our dependence on fossil fuels and petroleum. especially these unstable countries around the world. we'll find some opportunity in a way to move our economy in a new direction. there is that opportunity. we just have to be smart. we need to seize the day.
