. >> joining me now is malcolm nance and nbc terrorist analyst. malcolm, thank you for being here. the new york city law enforcement says there is no proof this is an act of terrorism. how is he making that decision? >> i think he's being very careful when he uses the definition of terrorism. definition of terrorism is violence or political violence that immediately impacts the lives of an audience outside the immediate victims. that's already happened. we've had almost constant coverage since this thing went off. the second s what was the intention behind this act? it was intentional because somebody left that explosive in that dumpster. they left a second one far off. we don't know if it's connected. what do they want to do? do they want to kill first responders? do they want to just get attention? were they using it as a distraction device for something coming further on? that's why he won't use the word terrorism until the bomb squad and the announcer of the terrorism division gives him an idealogy to hang this terrorism definition onto. >> what does this style of attack, this

malcolm, great to see you.oining us. >> good to be here. >> when we talked about bomb attacks in the past, you sort of described an unexploded device as kind of the, the alpha and the omega in terms of forensics and trying to understand where this, this came from. do you have high hopes in terms of that intact pressure cooker bomb and intact pipe bombs that have been recovered? >> oh, yes, we are going to learn quite a bit about the, not just about the bombs themselves. bombs are just, you know devices and systems that the terrorists build. it's about why he builds them. how he builds them. why did he choose that particular device? why did he choose that particular explosive? we will learn quite a bit about this individual. also where did he get the going individual, and also, where did he get the expertise to do this? i think you're going to find fascinating information about that as that comes out. certainly, it might be related to his trips to pakistan. as soon as i heard pressure cooker bomb, the word afgha
