malcolm: yeah. original insight is the first tipping point, to use the principles that have been worked out over the years to describe the spread of viruses and take them and use them to describe the spread of ideas and behaviors. at the time, that was a fairly novel idea. i think since then we have become accustomed to that metaphor and we describe all the time now ideas as going viral, the expressions that an idea can have the same properties as an infectious virus. so it's a very useful metaphor because over the centuries we have studied viruses we have worked out a series of principles about how they behave and it turns out the principles work really well when you look at the spread of ideas and behaviors. it is a very elegant useful metaphor. peter: as social media and the online world sped up the process that has social media on the online world sped up the process of the tipping point? malcolm: i think so. i described in my original book the laws of the few, that several -- a small fraction o
