maldonado, epidemiologist with stanford university joins us live.hank you for joining thus morning, dr. maldonado. >> good morning. >> i know for a lot of people herd immunity, talk to us about what that is. >> well, herd immunity is people in a community who have already developed resistance to infection to keep it from spreading to other people who may not have immunity to that disease. it is like a buffer. >> have we seen that work in other infectious diseases? is that where we've seen it before? >> protection against disease and the way you can do that is by getting the disease, getting sick or getting the vaccine. we don't have another way so we need to stay away from each other as long as the disease is in the community. >> we know herd immunity works but will it work with coronavirus. the theory about former w.h.o. officials that the virus could be seasonal and we could see a drop before we get a vaccine. what does that look like? >> it's hard to know. four of them are normal cold viruses and they do come every year and we don't build up long
