from the first moment she stepped into the district and became supervisor of district 10, malia cohen has been a refreshing and enthusiastic supporter of ambassadors. we work closely with her office on a daily basis to court and our efforts. it is my pleasure to welcome supervisor cohen. [applause] >> good morning, everyone. you heard the long list of think use. i would also like to the knowledge our police captain from the bayview as well as a single side. this is the manifestation of community policing behind me. we have come to thank all of our elected leaders. but i am here to especially thank and pay my respects to the ambassador's themselves who have completed their technical training. not only will they be bringing safety to the san bruno avenue corridor, but they are making a fashion statement. you see these wonderful new jackets that they will be wearing. it is not easy, trust me. it is not easy to preach and bring safety first while you put it -- while looking good. i want to applaud the ambassadors for doing a good job. i think this is a fantastic example of our local hire

i have the fortune of working with malia cohen. we sit on a land use committee together. she is a tenacious advocate for district 10. she is doing a great job and i am proud to call for my colleague. congratulations, everyone. i have been here all morning with malia cohen looking at the projects that we have in this area. is part of that young talent and i get to work with, as well as scott wiener. the board of supervisors have been working with me these past seven months, and we are trying to get a lot of things delivered. not a lot of political stance. getting stuff done. fulfiling old promises. promises that you heard decades ago. you saw me smiling this morning as i embraced this man, freddie carter. he is part of the construction team here. freddie was certified when i was the director of the human rights commission. he had a joint venture. it was a small firm, and they had to get some beer projects, and i remember, you went out and bought yourself a red truck. do you still have that truck? freddie is part of the kck general contractors team that formed the property bid on the dpw and library bid process. they ultimately won the right to build this. and guess what, he is local, right here in the bayview. that is important to me, personally, it is important to the city. that is why the library dire

the board today, we're in her district, you're great supervisor, supervisor melia -- supervisor malia cohen. supervisor cohen: i want to talk about mayor lee. he is so may your role now. there was a time when he would go to the microphone and say two or three sentences. those days are gone. he took all of my talking points. i want to commend his leadership in office, what he has been able to to. he has honor his commitments. everything he said he is going to do, he has done. i just want to also acknowledge -- thank you for being a business on that the third street emerging corridor. you've made donations for a lot of our meetings. this is a beacon of hope. we are not stopping here. we are working along the third street corridor. steps that we are taking today are going to assure that folks who come to san francisco are going to come along the corridor and shop and spend their money and be able to see and feel the committee -- the community we have here. we will not be deterred by negative energy. we will continue to move forward in bill. i am glad to see the bayview here. it is today we kic

on behalf of my organization, i want to thank malia cohen for this ordinance. this is fundamentally a false advertising consumer protection issue. an impact on consumers is tangible. it is the difference between taking a pill or having an invasive procedure. there is no time to delay. the resources already exist. there is the bay area project. there is planned parenthood. we have the resources to advise women through the full natural spectrum of childbirth, and that includes birth, medically- indicated miscarriages, abortion. the need to protect women from false advertising is very important, especially considering that in the united states, we have over 10,000 pre-teens who are impregnated every year in the country. the difference between getting her a pill or an invasive procedure is absolutely urgent and important. i urge you to vote yes on this ordinance. supervisor cohen: thank you. next speaker please. >> my name is summer lohan. we partner with an organization called change.org to get support for this ordinance. i just wanted to stand here in support of

fred blackwell and malia cohen and so many other wonderful people who have really been leading this effort to revitalize the whole of bayview hunters point and third street but i know fred's heart has been in this from day one. i've watched him. i've worked with him. and i know that he's gone through every emotion in life to bring revitalization and hope in this neighborhood and now on the eve of his so many successes going on and we shared some tears with him a few weeks ago when we announced the alice griffin from neighborhood choice program. we knew that that, along with college track, and his droction droction -- direction in getting this building and his leadership not only in redevelopment -- work with our school district, working with city college, working with san francisco state university, working with the private sector. he's crowning so many things before he leaves to be the deputy city administrator in oakland. i want to thank you, fred, for all your wonderful leadership and your commitment here.
