i want to commend the efforts of malia cohen and hurt addressing this issue of violence. i am assured that you will continue to work. i wanted to say quickly, supervisor avalos, you and i have been doing this for 10 years. there are some lessons learned. one of the primary things we have to do is ensure continuity of services. you heard the woman speak before regarding the the permit a public health saying that 80%, 90% of people are responding to these incidents. uni know that that is not right. i want to commend the efforts under way by the housing authority to bring more synergy to the response. it is not a police problem exclusively. it is a combined problem. every department needs to be pulled back and looked at a quarterly basis to quantify best practices. it is not a department of children youth problem because they do not have the authority to exceed other departments that need to be part of the discussion. i want to encourage you to increase reliance on the university's as well as the philanthropic community to bring us up to a state of the art best practices sys

we are coming together with our board of supervisors, malia cohen is here, mta board, we're coming together to make investment. you do not get the investment unless you get investor confidence. so with all the agencies, whether it is caltrans, sfmta, the fed's or regional, local authorities here, we are creating confidence, and we are not waiting. when the public, when the voters say, are you just debating? no, we have made that investment. 2000 jobs already created. and guess what? more to come in a greeley plant way. this is not only the grand central station of the west. when this is finished, you have a hub of transportation that is connected to 4000 residential units that will be built in and around the area. 11 acres of new open space. five of them above ground. these are the transit hub residential centers that we want to build which are the future of california, and it is happening right here with private investors along with public investors. so this project means much more than just celebrating a great transit system of high-speed rail. it is a connector for our future development

supervisor malia cohen, supervisor carmen chu. and the other members for their support in making public safety a priority. the president is here somewhere. and the rest of the police commission. this is just a tremendous day for san francisco. we have made tremendous inroads in impacting violent crime over the last few years. it is because of our staffing and the community support to do it through the community policing in the engagement of young people. this will allow us to keep doing that. we're going to lose close to 300 officers with the sunset of drop, and maybe another 100 officers before the summer of 2015. this will dramatically impact that. what the academy is is 29 weeks for entry level officers. eight weeks for lateral transfers. that includes a one-week fire arm training, one-week vehicle operation steny, one-week of officers of rival, and then continued use of force and physical training throughout. -- one-week vehicle operation training, one week of officer survival. and community policing. the mayor mentioned gary.
