[applause] >> president cohen: thank you. hi, everyone. what city would we be in if there were not the occasional hecklers. you heard the remarks from the mayor. she talked about how the budget was going to be spent, and i want to spend a couple minutes talk about the process that we went through that brought us to where we are today. first of all, this is an $11 billion budget. it's a reflection of the city of st. francis, a city that we both grew up in. this budget is supporting the city's most vulnerable with passion and dignity and also helps us solve some of problems that we are facing. it's the result of a robust, transparent, and inclusive process with an open and often vigorous discussion around our priorities. what i'm most proud of are the investments reducing homelessness, and i want to acknowledge our guests here. thank you for allowing us in your home today. and i also want to call out that we are champions of public safety for all citizens, and we are also committed to

[laughter] to be fair when she was a supervisor of district 5 there was a rivalry between which district was the best. but now that she's the mayor of the entire city every district is the best. so i want to applaud mayor breed for that. thank you so much. i hope that you guys are excited to be here because, you know, i think that on a surface value -- a surface look, $725,000 may not sound like a lot of money. but to the fix-it team it actually doubles their budget and doubles the size of their budget. and just to give this team some context, it started two years ago when mayor lee was also walking around the city and just saw how filthy the city was. and got together with the director of public works and they put their brains together and they came up with a fix-it team. and the fix-it team was on a shoestrin

[applause] >> thank you, and good morning, ladies and gentlemen. what a wonderful day, mayor breed, also a fantastic start. this is exciting news. i'm thrilled to join the mayor as well as my colleagues, supervisor mandelman and supervisor brown, as well as my partners in the department of public health that are standing up here with me, to announce this $100 million for board and care. san francisco has always been a city that has been committed to supporting our most vulnerable residents. you know what, we haven't stopped yet. we're actually recommitting and reaffirming that commitment today. this year i'm proud that the -- that our budget process was, quite frankly, most transparent. and policy driven. a collaborative process that we have seen to date. in the month leading up to the budget we spoke with community activists, we have spoken with our residents, we polled our residents and, of course, we surveyed the colleagues on the board of supervisors. resoundingly

as you know, president malia cohen had a public hearing in may. she called for another one in september. i will keep you posted. the expectation is that at the end of september, there may be a follow-up on that. and at some point, in discusses with the chair and vice chair, we would want to bring something to the commission to get an update and so just wanting to make sure that we are transparent in our process as we move forward. it will be nice for once to have the navy and the e.p.a. just do the retest, because that's happening. it's a lengthy process. we continue to be bombarded with press and the process was happened in the past and we're losing sight of what is continuously going on, which is making tetra tech accountable and e.p.a. and having them retest the shipyard. >> chair mondejar: thank you. thank you for that update. i think it's very helpful. i'd like us to be more proactive with the community and not simply react to comments or questions or media inquiries. i think it's important to keep the information going. so i thank you for do
